I think Verizon made the move to try and keep people from porting out to get a better deal and used the whole "people canceling and selling phones for profit" excuse so it wouldn't sound bad.
I saw a chart from an ATT rep that showed port ins from other carriers and the number of people porting from verizon was through the roof, topped all other carriers by a landslide.
Why would they have to do this to keep people from ripping them off for phones, they've always had expensive phones and their earnings show that this is obviously not an issue, and chances are the few that are doing this simply wont pay the ETF anyways.

Well if you don't pay the ETF doesn't that fuq up your credit? Personally I value good credit, my score is over 730.

Yeah it does, but working in the business you would be surprised at how many people you try running credit for that had an outstanding balance on a previous account that they just decided not to pay anymore.

Gosh! People don't seem to care about good credit! Don't know what the deal is!

Not paying the etf, I'm sure will have an effect on one's credit, how much depends on the person. Somebody with excellent credit with no problems, not so sure it will have a real bad effect on them. And even so, in a few months or a year it will all be erased.

Just understand one thing, love or hate VZW, you can basically write off getting on them again, without paying off whats owed, and then having to toss money into escrow. This also might have an effect if you decide to go to another carrier, after porting and dodging the etf.

It could, just how much, not sure, if one has excellent credit and pays all the time, and you dispute it, I doubt it would mess much up.
