Verizon Wireless Confirms $350 ETF for Premium Devices
That's Okay!
Lets look at this, shall we?
Data capped at 5gb by one carrier
-data capped on all carriers within a year
ETFs prorated by one carrier
-ETFs prorated by all major carriers
SMS per use rate increased by one carrier
-SMS per use rate increased by all other carriers
Verizon requires data plans on all smartphones released after a certain date
-ATT requires a data plan on all smartphones, no matter how old they are (seriously... wtf)
Altell/Tmobile (forget the first one) introduce "my circle" family plans
-all other major carriers create an alternative
One carrier creates an unlimited calling plan
-other carriers follow suite
There doesn't have to be any li...

Hey, Sprint switched to BREW, maybe AT&T will, too!
Please enlighten me of one hike/significant change in the wireless industry that most other carriers implemented that ATT did not implement?
Visual voicemail charging also isn't something that every other carrier is doing (no trend) and you can get free visual voicemail on blackberries (the closest thing verizon had to a flagship).
the iphone visual voicemail was a program developed by apple. the Verizon version was one. If you want verizon to compare "apples to apples" lead by example.
Offpeak still varies so much from carrier to carrier, but yeah, even with that there were copycats.

you mean in two weeks when ATT announces they are doing the same thing? (but making it retro-active?)

Making it retro-active would be a change in the TOS which means you can leave with a $0 etf.
I don't plan on leaving. And if most people would give VZW a try they may find they are better. I had Verizon for years, tried AT&T in a full 3G covered city, didn't like AT&T's network or customer srvs, went back to Verizon and never looked back. Having a fancy phone on a less reliable network isn't worth it. I even had to give up coverage to places I traveled with AT&T. Verizon not only has the reliability they have great coverage and 3G footprint as well.
Especially with the Droid and other smartphone devices, or even some of the newer touchscreen phones, and on a reliable network why would someone want to leave in the first place? $350, $500, $1,0...

And ironically, VZW's network is worse than AT&T's in much of the country.
I find it amusing that whenever someone points out an ATT flaw you immediate ask for proof, but then you feel you can make wild claims about anyone else and plant their reliability solely on your word.
I'm not "defending" verizon wireless. I'm clarifying their policy since the average internet commenter seems incapable of actually reading a post.
And sadly, those who put forth that other carriers may follow suit, I happen to believe that will happen. They are all greedy and will do what they can get away with. I think all of us who thinks this is excessive should start complaining to their congress person and state legislator, show them the greed. The carriers are already on thin ice over this.
This isnt a rate plan hike, or any other service, it's a protection against people getting huge subsidies on phones then breaking their end of the deal. I think The ETF should be the difference in what you paid (the subsidized price) and the outright price of the handset. (With an adjustment for how many months you've had it) that would be higher than $350 in most cases.
People still have 30 days to see if they like a phone during which they can return/exchange it. If you arent responsible enough to do your due diligence and put the phone through its paces in that 30 days, shame on you. This is mea...

1: increase the price on phones (and piss everyone off)
2: increase etf (and piss 5% of their customers off)
If you really think companies want ETFs for profit, you need to look at how cell industry works.
Fact is, every reputable consumer advocacy group, (JD Power, Consumer Reports), major techy magazine(wired, PC), and business publication (Wall Street Journal) rates vzw as the best and most reliable network, best customer service, etc while AT&T is 3rd or 4th in nearly every major survey/study

ETF on smartphones being higher makes sense. An ETF is to offset the subsidy. I have already seen people stating to buy the phone on a new line, pay the 2yr price plus act fee plus disconnect and it comes out cheaper then paying full retail. Yes, VZW pays quite a chunk of money for every Droid/Storm/etc. This is purely to stop that practice.
How much does VZW pay for the Droid? More then the $200 plus $175 etf, and then there are those who never send for their rebate? I doubt they pay much more then $400 when it comes down to it. Now lets move to the ERIS another nice Android phone, more or less based on the Hero, now its been out for sometime? What do you really think they'r...

There is someone else who might not bash my comments because he is defending AT&T...but might because my comments aren't to praise AT&T...
I will tell you the people that will leave...
iPhone users or people that WANT an iPhone.
Bash the iPhone or AT&T if you want. The fact is people that have iPhones like/love them for the most part and they influence their friends. I am on iPhone #2 - had a 1st generation iPhone. Sold it when the 3GS came out. I left Verizon soley because of the iPhone. My wife stayed with Verizon because of Mobile to Mobile calling with friends/family...

I was at her home watching her try to connect to the "high speed" internet and it kept only connecting at EDGE speeds.
Next day I bring a thumbdrive with drivers and a data cable. Connect in my storm and showed her real wireless internet. Next day we did a reconnect (had to do new number though) and added a line with an aircard.
I love the interface on the iPhone. I love the browser. But I have numerous friends that love their iPhone for same reasons, but hate t...

The Storm is a horrible phone. The fact you say anything positive about it is proof you're full of it.
And, when I had my Storm, I couldn't get any 3G, but when I got my iPhone, 5 full bars!

You really will say anything to advance that fanboy agenda 🤣

I suppose we will just disagree then. I like my storm a lot. Once Skyfire is released for it I will say I love the phone. Can't say I wouldn't like the iPhone either. If you had attacked the Storm's native broswer for a negative...then I would agree with you. Attacking the messaging though? Messaging is so fast.
Common sense and reason is not something Bluecoyote is known for. It's his way of thinking or no way

It's not like anyone who wants a 'premium device' exactly shops at the gruel of crappy also-rans Verizon offers to begin with.
89 million Verizon subscribers say you're full of crap. And they all said it in this weird, Borg-like voice, too. Creepy.
