Even Sprint has More 3G Coverage than AT&T!

Yes, it's true. If you don't believe me, check it out for yourself. Btw, I am referring to EVDO Rev. A, not 1X. I haven't seen Tmobile's updated maps...but I'm sure they're not far behind AT&T.
In terms of 3G Coverage, in order from most to least is as follows:

1. Verizon
2. Sprint
3. AT&T
4. T-Mobile

I agree. AT&T should be whining when their 3G coverage is larger only to T-Mobile. I mean, T-Mobile! 😳

AT&T is mad because Verizon took the #1 spot.

Just wait till the Storm 2 (which is already released), Motorola Droid, HTC Droid, and maybe soon the Palm Pre comes to Verizon. Then we'll see what people choose. The Moto Droid already seems to be a great device but on top of that it's on the largest 3G network.

You are absolutely right. Verizon has a lot of smartphones being released. I can't wait til Verizon gets the Palm Pre. That phone will for sure sell well. It has done quite well on Sprint...but wait til big red gets it...I could be wrong...but I predict it will out-sell the iphone.

Who are they going to sell it to? Most geeks (or I should call them smartphone enthusiasts) are on AT&T already. 😎

the iphone (and the pre) aren't marketed to geeks though. They are marketed to teens/twentysomethings with spending money who want a cool toy.

Also, a lot of ATT smartphone users (at least iphone ones) are not happy with the network.

Really? you really think so? I can picture AT&T with arms crossed and full pout on sitting in a corner.
Why can't verizon admit that the reason why AT&T has almost 3 times the number of smartphones than them is because even though the 3G network is not as big as theirs, we can do more things on our phone (WIFI anyone?)
Now, that's something I think THEY are pissed off about. It has not mattered how much they have beaten "The Network" adds in everyone's head, people still flock to AT&T. I guess size doesn't matter for most people, as long as the phone is cool and works in your city.
I could care less if there's 3G in the middle of MS whe...

AT&T certainly does not have 3 times the smartphone users as Verizon. Care to post or cite a source, other than AT&T? The only thing AT&T has had going for them is the iphone. When they lose that next year...they will start to bleed customers like you've never seen. Apple knows they have to get their device off of the AT&T network. It's really sad that you have to say good for AT&T is a false claim that they have 3 times the smart phone users. Now, that's getting desperate. AT&T has made several false claims, in which they had to retract. They still have some out there. Do you ever hear them say, "Fewest dropped calls" anymore? Nope, because that claim was proved to be false. Now, they claim to have the fastest 3G network, althoug...

An "independent research" company also claimed at&t had the least dropped calls...which was later proven to be false...who saw that one coming? But, honestly...who cares who has more smartphone users? That's pretty sad that's at&t has left to tout. At&t is basically touting and screaming about most smartphone users, which makes it sound like they could care less about the vast majority of their users, which are not smartphone users. Even if it is true...it won't be for long. Verizon has many new smartphones coming out...and people are quickly realizing they can use smartphones on Verizon's network without the issues they have on at&t...and it is actually 3G speeds.

Yeah I think its so funny that people choose argue about every little thing. If a Carrier researched things themselves nobody would believe them. When a carrier specifically uses outside research then nobody believes them... stop whining. Shut up

...not AT&T. One million two hundred and eighty thousand iphones activated by customers new to AT&T in the third quarter. I seriously doubt it was AT&T's network they were flocking to. I want an iphone REALLY badly...just not THAT badly. When this iphone exclusive ends and the iphone is carried by more carriers get back at me. I know that I will have two on my account as soon as I am ALLOWED to buy one on Verizon.

I feel the same way, just replace Verizon with Sprint in my case. Live in the Sacramento,CA area. Sprint works flawlessly. Have EVDO coverage everywhere I go. And I am saving a ton over Verizon and AT&T. Sprint will probably never get the iPhone i know, but one can always hope I suppose. Will stick with my curve for now.

Interesting that you have avoided the point of this thread. Don't you think it's sad that the number 3 carrier with 53 million customers has more 3G coverage than the number 2 carrier with 81 million? Then there's the number 4 carrier will soon have as much, if not more than AT&T. Seriously? C'mon. How can you defend that? I guess you can't...which is why you continue to talk about everything but what is relevant in these threads.

dont you think its sad that the number 1 carrier has 1/3 the smartphones out than the number 2 carrier?

There is no point to a 3G network if you cant do 2 different things at once on the network anyways. You cant be talking to a client on the your PDA and then forward them the latest email while your talking to them... it just can"t happen on Verizon's or Sprint's network. So they should stop saying how much better their 3G network is and start making it useful

LOL it is so funny that "most smartphone users" is all you guys have left to "tout" about. How many people do you really think need to talk on the phone and email at the same time? Not many. More people need to multi-task on their phones while not talking. On the Palm Pre, I can be doing literally 20 things at the same time...can't do that on any at&t phone. By the way, you can text while talking on CDMA networks...that's good enough for me. I can save the data use for when I am not talking. It's funny that you tout that option, but it can only be done in 3G areas...which for at&t are few and far between...so. how many of those smartphone users can actually do that?

"How many people do you really think need to talk on the phone and email at the same time?" Well its not only emailing people while talking to them that is highly beneficial. Surfing the web, if you have applications that use the internet, IE: weather, sports apps, its great knowing that these functions are NOT rendered useless while talking on the phone. I didn't think I needed this function until I had it. I assume that everyone outside of AT&T find ways around it because they cannot have data/voice simultaneously, they would have to. I think people aren't going to care for this, or maybe they do but choose not to complain because theres no point. AT&T 3rd Generation in wireless communications is NOT everywhere, of course not, but I live i...

The iphone is what is getting people to "flock" to att. If that phone was non-exclusive, the numbers would be much different.

Once again, you bring up something irrelevant and ignore the fact at hand. As far as using your phone at wifi hotspots...AT&T has so many hotspots because their network is so awful...they know they don't have a lot of 3G coverage...which is why you need hotspots. I don't need hotspots with Sprint, and VZW customers don't need hotspots...because we get great 3G coverage. The only time I ever use the wifi on my phone, is to tether with my Palm Pre on my laptop. Yeah, there's an app for that on the Pre! Can your iphone do that? Guess there's not an app for that haha

Remember...Sprint and Verizon use their roaming agreements when they show you their 3G coverage maps. AT&T is really the only major GSM provider in the US. And since T-Mobile only recently turned on their 3G network, AT&T has had to build their 3G network alone. Sprint, Verizon, and Alltel built their networks and added their roaming agreements...take away those and you are looking at coverage a lot like AT&T's.

Nov 4, 2009, 1:06 AM
You would be wrong. Verizon's 3G coverage shows just their coverage. When you go to Sprint's website to look at their 3G coverage, it shows theirs in orange, and their roaming with Verizon in dark gray. Sprint's native 3G network, shown in orange is much larger than AT&T's. So, maybe you should take a look at the maps.

C'mon- the only one that cares and debates it are the kids on phone scoop.
If the AT&T network really sucked that bad and data experience was crap, why did they post their best ever quarter for net adds and best ever for churn.
AT&T has the lowest churn in the industry and signs up more customers quarter after quarter.
hmmmmm... wait - maybe its an independent source releasing the quarterly results too

att does not have the lowest churn rate...that's a ttle verizon has held for many years. Att only improved because of the iphone. Over a million iphones were activated in the last quarter. What do you think will happen when att loses that next year? We shall see!

AT&T will not be losing the Iphone anytime soon so get off it, also as far as churn goes AT&T gains 5 Verizon customers to where Verizon gets 4 AT&T customers on average with port outs obviously their all over network and bad taste in advertising isn't helping Verizon get the edge over AT&T. And of course Verizon has the leading customer base buying a company like Alltel will boost your customer's by several million. Give it a couple years and AT&T will be back out on top πŸ™‚like they usually are.

for your information, att only got to the number one by cingular buying att...that doubled their subs...alltel only added 13 million for verizon. Verizon had 76 million before they bought alltel...cingular had 30 million before buying att. So, get your facts straight.
