Verizon calls it 3g. I don't consider average speeds of 350k 3g.

Every company has a magic marker that "expands" their actual coverage.

AT&T should claim 3G anywhere where there's EDGE then 🤣 Now, the maps wouldn't be that different, would them?

Maybe you should read more threads before posting something so false. The Verizon map does not show 1x...it's only their EVDO REV A coverage. You can verify that at http://www.vzw.com/coverage if you're so inclined. The maps are NOWHERE near being the same.

sorry. Verizon is including CDMA2000 coverage in their maps, too. Technically CDMA2000=1XRTT=3G.

No, actually they are not. While 1XRTT is technically 3G, as AT&T's edge is technically 3G...neither company has ever claimed either of them to be 3G. I worked for both. They referred to them as 2.5G internally. Generations of technology used to be just jargon, and was not allowed to even be said to customers. It wasn't until recent years 3G became a common term. Verizon has never called their 1X 3G, and they have not started now. Their map depicts only EVDO Rev. A. If you say differently...back it up. As has already been pointed out...that is not even in question by AT&T...so, it shouldn't be by you.

yeah. Anyone will admit that GSM 3G is up to 15% faster than CDMA 3G, but 350kbps? dude, something is wrong with that. My phone consistently averages in the 1800kbps range and has never fallen bellow 900kbps on 3G or 500 on 1x on vzw network. I run mobilespeedtest.com at least once a day just for fun.

then your not living in those rural areas where Verizon refers its 1xrtt as "3g".

heck i know this is beating a dead horse but whats the point of bluetooth headsets on Verizon's network when you cant Surf the web and talk at the same time? you would think that should be more of a priority than fast internet speeds noone gets to use

Just an observation, I have had Verizon and Sprint within the last year. Just switched over to AT&T. I was a little scared to switch to begin with. I had heard so much about their terrible Data speeds. However, I have found AT&T Edge network to work better for me than Verizon or Sprint 1X's network. I can now use Pandora and Orb on a regular basis where as with Verizon or Sprint it was not usable. And I must add that I found when in AT&T 3g coverage, Sprint or Verizon neither one can hold a light. So I'm not a Verizon or Sprint hater, just relaying my experiences for anyone that has heard all the horror stories about AT&T. 😁

i don't agree. hmmm. so by your logic if AT&T doesn't question it, then neither should I? And here I thought i had my *own* mind!

GSM is not 3G according to the phonescoop glossary. I just feel like its a bit misleading when Edge speeds compare very favorably with 1X CDMA2000...which *is* 3G ; )

CDMA2000 is *technically* 3G, but i don't understand why. the speeds are about the same as EDGE.

compare:

~~~~~~~~~~~
cdma2000 is a third-generation (3G) wireless technology that is evolved from existing CDMA 2G technology. Its main features are faster data rates, always-on data service, and improved voice network capacity (more people can use each tower at the same time).
cdma2000 supports up to 144 Kbps packet data speeds. It also doubles voice capacity over previous CDMA networks (IS-95).
EDGE is used automatically when both the phone and...
