Why are there no Sprint PDA phones with Direct Connect Qchat? Don't all AT&T's smartphones have PTT? All sprint's phone's should have the option to have it. They have the ability to put PTT on there......any reason why they don't?
...
Honestly it is a dying technology. If you look at Nextel's network, it can not handle really any data at all. It would cost more money to do, than the return. Texting and social networking on the internet is taking over a lot of that direct connect and PTT.

I understand that iden is dying, but they have qchat over cdma. Couldn't you argue that it's dying because they are killing it buy not offering it......
...
True, but again, how many people would actually use it? I sounds like it would cost more money to push it than for people to actually use it.

Most people that used to be iDEN are now on the CDMA network without direct connect. Honestly, why push to talk when you could make the call or send an email in the same time? It is simply a technology that is bound to become a niche among first responders and industry with few other real applications.

before sprint took over nextel, direct connect was more than a niche feature because everybody had it. all it takes is to put the software on the phones. at&t puts push to talk on their pda's last I checked so some people must be interested. sprints qchat cdma direct connect is superior. at the very least, they might be able to sell more high end phones to "niche" customers and possibly get more revenue for things like text, net. if its an available feature on a phone some people are bound to use it. just like gps, web, text. not all people use these but the are available options...

Yeah i was wondering the same thing about ptt. Ptt is doing great on the business side. Its more marketed to first responders, police, construction workers ect. Most of them dont really need a pda they want a rugged phone that gets the job done. It would be nice to have ptt on my pda tho.

I feel the same way, but maybe if they offerred it, more people would take advantage of it. Imagine a touch pro 2, the moment, or the pre with PTT. It would be amazing.

With push to talk one can speak to an entire group with one press of the button. AT&T and Verizon have not been trying to emulate Nextel's direct connect for nothing, you know. There are many industries like construction where they would not dream of dropping PTT.
