Don't give up on the Pre...

The Pre has the potential to rattle the iPhone. It needs work, but as a platform it's far ahead of Android or the giant turd that is WinMo.

Sprint is only going to be an also-ran with Android and WM.

In what way, shape, or form is Pre ahead of Android?

Multi tasking in my opinion, i have had both. Yes other phones may multitask. But the pre is on a whole other level.

the Pre is all about potential. easiest phone to develop for period. the only thing holding it back is the fact that as of right now the GPU sits unused, slowing things down a bit. speed is the name of the game. if they unleash that beast the Pre is going to be insane. Sprint won't ignore WebOS, Palm isn't going to ignore WebOS, it's here to say.

android is a more mature os, but i think WebOS will catch up.

WebOS's biggest strikes right now:
-It's behind time wise in terms of when it was introduced compared to Android
-One network has had it so far
-Palm is coming back from a near death experience, Google has more money than some countries behind it

Palm, Sprint or anyone else won't ignore WebOS but I think WebOS will struggle a little more getting widespread acceptance than Android.

As far as whats better, I really don't care. It's nice to see the choices 😁

2 words. Over clock. Once palm realized what apple did...you NEED 600 mhz or more to make a capacitive touch screen fluid. The Hero, pre, my touch, tilt 2, pro 2, ALL these phones are SEVERELY lacking in processor speed. If the palm pre were to have a faster processor (it's 600 outright...what's another 100 mhz? I don't understand....

Hey Hawkeye, I just want to say it was really, really refreshing reading that last sentance in your post "As far as whats better, I really don't care. It's nice to see the choices."

Reason I say it's refreshing is well right this perticular moment I can't think of the best adjective to use, but lets just say that it's eXtremely annoying all this eXtreme bias and fanboy stuff on Phone Scoop. It just seems to me as though some people are absolute zombies, and have given their souls over to the wireless companies they work for, and have stopped being consumers!

Anyway, go with whatever you feels is best, for whatever reasons you feel it's best. We all have our preferences.

The user interface on the Pre just simply blows the rather mediocre interface on Android out of the water. And let's be honest, pretty much every Android device on the market sucks.

This is true especially in regards to Multitasking- like Kayslay mentioned it does Multitasking with iPhone levels of polish- Android's multitasking is more of a checklist feature than something actually useful.

The Pre's OS has already surpassed the function and abilities of the iphone. They both use the same OS platform and CPU chip. But the Pre utilizes the platform much more effectively in operation. The iphone is very simple to use but cannot perform to the OS's potential. It needs apps to appear feature rich. What Pre lacks is the attractive profile design, the app catalog and the obvious itunes. If I had to see Palm change anything, it would be a larger screen and the slim profile of the iphone. The Pre's keyboard is the turn off for me. But given a larger keyboard and screen, The Pre would be the master. I beg anyone to try the Pre and see it in operation. Set aside the keyboard and smaller screen, this phone kicks serious booty. In a sense,...

How many times do I have to say that. Nobody cars that the Pre has more features and matches the iPhone OS in functionality. It's on a carrier nobody wants to use, WebOS has no apps and the Pre just isn't cool with that old school keyboard. If you're gonna slap on a physical keyboard on a device, it should be landscape and the Pixi should have never had one to begin with.

Not everyone wants a touchscreen keyboard. Some people still prefer a physical keyboard for typing. I personally have found that all touchscreens make for terrible typewriters.

How many people are out there that still prefer physical keyboards do you think? 50% or more?

Personally, I haven't made the jump to a touchscreen phone yet.

Android is essentially the new "Windows Mobile." It's going to always have checklist features and always going to be let down by its hardware or vice versa. Think about it- there have been four Android handsets listed for sale and all of them are trash.

I think the main issue with the Pre's launch on Sprint was that Verizon Wireless tried to distract people from signing a contract by lying about the device on their network- saying "Hey, we're getting it too, please don't leave." This likely cooled Pre sales significantly for people holding over.

Android has only been out for 1yr. The good hardware has just started with the Droid, and Samsung is coming out (or maybe already has, not sure) with a nice Samsung Android phone that is well specced.

Android has only been out for 1yr, give it a chance.

Not saying I disagree that the G1's hardware was no good btw. That chin thing was so frinkin dorky!

There's word that HTC is going to put out a version of the HD2 running Android.

Hey Slammer, what do you mean by the Pre and the Iphone using the same OS platform. Doesn't the Pre use the same programming language that is written for webpages? Isn't that why it's so easy to develope for?
