Are you kidding me? No more tethering on Sprint Smart Phones??? Well this may finally drive me to another carrier!

why tether anyways? it's so expensive and you get S...L...O...W... speeds. it only costs like $15 more to get a ton faster speed with a connection card. And besides that, why switch, every other carrier is trying to phase it out too. you're going to lose it sooner or later

I tether with Rev A with my XV6900 (Verizon). No data card is any faster.

Wrong, 4g data card in Baltimore is faster...

LOL In Baltimore? What a waste of a response. I don't live in Baltimore or a major metro area. As I have responded to Jay's post about Clear, if they ever made it to my small market I would sign up in a heartbeat. Chances are slim to none though.

Well, they claim to have a large majority of the country covered by 2012 or so. So let's just wait and see if that ends up being the case. I'm originally from Connecticut, so it'll be interesting to see if the small New England towns that I'm from get covered by Clear in the next 24 months. That sure would be cool to make video calls with my family!!!

No, you made the bold statement of no data card is faster..... I proved you wrong. You never mentioned anything about the demographics of your speed.

I have a 4G usb modem 😁

I live in Las Vegas though, not Baltimore, Clear for me, not Sprint, yeah I know, Sprint owns 51% of Clear so what it's still not Sprint.

well maybe with verizon, I know on sprint, the data is 3X faster with the card. I have a buddy with verizon, he does the tethering too, and I must admit it is rather fast, but he says that everytime he calls in they offer him the card, and he was told if he changes his plan he won't be able to keep the tethering feature, same as if he wants a new phone like the blackberry or something. so I'm imagining they're trying to phase it out as well. Same on the sprint side

No. Verizon isn't because they rape you for the same $59.99 that they would charge for a data card. Mobile Broadband on a data card is $59.99. If one has a smartphone with a $29.99 data plan then Verizon charges an additional $30 for Mobile Broadband Connect. If one has the $44.99 data plan they charge the $15 for Mobile Broadband Connect. So no need to rush anyone out the door when they are making the same $59.99. 🙄

Chances are the tethering feature he has is a grandfathered feature with no 5GB cap. All that means is if he changes his plan that particular feature will fall off and they will add the 5GB cap feature.

Yeah, I did that with ATT, except I wasn't "formally" paying for tethering, I have an app on my Nokia N95 that lets me use it as a wife router, and the 2 months before I got Clear internet, I used 8 & 9gb's of data using my N95 as a hotspot, only paying $10/mo for internet from ATT the whole time, and no, no overage charges.

Besides from my point of view, the speeds you get from both ATT and the other carriers aren't worht $30+/mo.

Clear has no evil data limit, I've used 18gb's since the 15th when I started my service.

What city do you live in? Any hopes of you getting a city wide hotspot sometime in the next 12 months?

I don't understand that. Why would speeds be any different on a usb modem than on a phone being tethered?

That was the most significant part of this article in my opinion. This infers that they will have WiMax smartphones soon and no intention to allow users to benefit via tethering. I wonder if Verizon will do the same when they get LTE up and running.

Hmm, but I wonder if they'll allow tethering a WiMAX smartphone? I know what this article said, but it applies to their current 3G lineup, 4G is still taking shape, hard to say for sure, ya know?

No. They won't. They'll want to force consumer to purchase a modem.

Ah, I only paid $50 for my usb modem, not too big of a deal. Assuming I don't lose it, I probably won't buy another one until Release 2 of WiMAX comes out at the end of 2011.

I prefer the simple feature addition to my phone rather than having to sign a new contract to add a new device.

honestly, if you have a simply everything plan and an aircard, with sprint you pay 159.98, with att and verizon you would pay 219.99 to have all the same features... so, unless coverage is an issue there wouldn't be any reason to switch. even with a data card sprint is cheaper than att and verizon without an air card... just sayin.

Crackberry....guess you have a good point. I just don't like the fact I will need to spend an extra $50 to use my laptop when before I can just plug my laptop into my smart phone for internet access.
