Why the GSM/CDMA dual handset ? Maybe a Sprint/T-Mobile hook up still in the works ?

For the same reason Verizon has them, so they can attract international travelers. One of the biggest drawback of CDMA carriers is their phones can't be used in Europe which is problem for some business users.

If you are a Sprint customer like me and travel out of the US, you want to have a CDMA/GSM phone otherwise you need a spare gsm phone beside your regular phone.

So far Sprint has a poor selection of CDMA/GSM phones. Beside TP2 (too bulky) and BB Tour (not for me), Samsung Intrepid (...) your choice is limited.

They also offer the BB 8830, Samsung Ace and Intrepid (WinMo 6.5), as well as the i920 on the iDen side.
