so they are making the Storm 2 with wifi? the storm one does not have that. None of their Blackberry phones have wifi at Verizon. that would be a first.

Yes, this will be the first CDMA BlackBerry in the world with WiFi, not just on Verizon.

Which I think, personally, is smart for any carrier. If folks don't HAVE to use your wireless network, it makes more space for others who do need it. Without the AT&T jokes, most of the time, I am connected to wifi on my iPhone because it is available at my job as well as my home. Frees up space for others. Just think if everyone was like that.

While freeing up the network is nice, it's not as big of an issue with CDMA networks as it is with GSM.

The freeing space is one reason, but I am convinced the primary reason they are including it is because they are tired of people complaining about the lack of wifi.

(Go to Engadget or some other tech site.. you'll STILL have people say verizon disables gps/ui/wifi in all their smartphones.. even with phones like the Ozone, Saga, and Omnia out)

Iphone fanboys exist, just not as many on this site as their are on others.

Thats the thing, all of Verizons BB have had 3G on them (Curve, Pearl, etc.) while GSM didn't. The Bold is AT&T's only 3G BB. It's not Verizon didn't want WiFi on it, RIM just didn't make CDMA phones with WiFi.

There is a big reason why there have been complaints to have wifi on a blackberry. BBs are still widely used by businessmen and more importantly Doctors and these group of people are using their devices more than ever. Many hospitals and business venues regardless of how good VZW and CDMA is, still have building penetration issues. Our company was set to buy BBs, but lack of Wifi made us implement HTC WinMo devices. We do not in anyway regret the choice, but BBs should by all special intent purposes, be the one device that automatically comes with Wifi. Especially being a business oriented handset. It's nice to have the option when needed.
