Uhhh...is this a smart thing?
Okay, I am sure everyone will have something to say about AT&T's service/coverage/customer care. Let's assume we've heard it all (multiple times) and skip that part.
How smart is it to sue the folks who manufacture phones that you use on your network? I am not a pro at business relations...but is this a good thing?

Well, they're not exclusive phones that AT&T provides. LG phones suck, but they're inexpensive, and Samsung phones are ok. Other than that, I don't see AT&T taking much of a loss from not carrying any of the handsets anymore if it comes down to it.

samsung could make lcd's for many other phone makers.

It's really not all that relevant that two of the sued companies also make phones. This is about the pricing of LCDs, which are separate from the phone manufacturing branch of the company.
While I don't know if this is the case, it's entirely possible the phone producing end of LG doesn't even use LG LCD's. Each division of a corporation has to be profitable and it's possible they won't make their balance sheet look bad to make their sister company look goof.
