Another pot shot at ATT & the iPhone. 😲

I thought it was kind of lame. I don't think any handset has done any damage to the iPhone by telling phones what the iPhone CAN'T do. This will be no different. I think the reason the iPhone commercials are done so well is because they focus ONLY on what the iPhone can do and doesn't mention anyone else. This Droid just gives the iPhone more publicity.

That being said...I can't wait to see what the Android platform comes up with.

Jeff,
I was thinking the same thing, and we all remember last year when they called the Storm and iPhone killer.
VZW should tout what the Shouls and what Android can do for you more then what an iPhone can't do.

The Storm, the Instinct, the Pre, The Voyager...all iPhone killers. But none of them actually destoryed the iPhone. The biggest thing is, these companies need to stop telling people why the iPhone is bad and start promoting why their phone is amazing. I think the saddest thing is, quality wise, none of the phones even match up to the iPhone...I'm not one of those dude blindly following Apple and what not, but I've seen this phones and they just don't come close.

But...I'll back off. Overall, these phones need to make an identity for themselves, because otherwise the phone will just be another "iPhone killer" as mentioned above.

I'm mixed on what you said, I agree about the Voyager, Instinct and the Storm. But as an iPhone owner, I do think the Pre and Android phones are on par with the iPhone and comes down to personal choice.

I also think outside of this negative ad, I do think VZW is going in the right direction with the Sholes. Now its AT&T's turn to step up to the Android plate, and better late then never.

What you mentioned about phones needing to mention what they CAN do rather than what the Iphone can't do is similar to politicians running for office. Most of the time, they just diss their oppenent rather than saying what differentiates them.

It's just like those automobile commercials where one manufacturer brags about how it has more horsepower or blah than the other manufacturer. All that does is make me want that other vehicle. If you are mentioning the Iphone in your commercial then in a way you are advertising the Iphone.

AT&T's network IS a deal killer. If I could have an Iphone on Verizon...I'd already have one.

And I often wondered, what would 20 million iphones do to VZW's network? Would it have an effect? I'm sure it would. Because I'm sure they would easily sell that many in a year.

It wouldn't hurt it as much as what's happened with ATT. CDMA is better at managing heavy data usage, and more importantly, it wouldn't cause normal phones to drop calls like it does on GSM.

Here's the thing...we've heard that argument over and over again. I could say "If I had a million dollars, I could pay off my student loans" but that isn't a reality.

Things is, what do you think will happen to Verizon's network if all iPhone users would be trasplanted from AT&T to Verizon. Do you really think their network would hold up in major cities? I don't. As much stock as folks put into Verizon, their towers have a capacity and limits as well.

they do, but that limit is significantly higher than it is with ATT. It would also only really hurt the data side of things not Data and voice.

I thought data and voice are only seperate on 3G GSM. Like on ATT I can be on a voice call, and checking Google Maps at the same time, whereas on Verizon you can't.

Nobody has ever explained to me exactly how it is that the Iphone is so, so, so much more taxing on ATT's network, than EVERY other phone.

because everything syncs to the network, and the average iphone users uses the internet more than the typical winmo/bberry user (streaming vids, social networking, etc)

Oh, my 2 most recent billing periods I used more than 8GB's using my Nokia N95 as a wifi hotspot. But as of October 15th I have Clear service, and they have real broadband internet, with real unlimited. at $20 bucks less a month than what ATT charges for they're inferior speeds. I gave up on waitng for HSPA 7.2 or HSPA+.

It's not the phone itself, it's the user. For example, when I had my Blackberry Curve, I didn't use the web nearly as much as I did my iPhone because a lot of the times, I would have to use the mobile version of web pages and it was hard to navigate. Even when I got my HTC Touch Pro, I used the web a bit more because of the improve browser, but the OS boggled down the phone and browsing could lag a lot. The iPhone makes using the web a lot easier and because of that, people do it much more often than with other phones.

I think it's also about how people interpret their device. When people get their Blackberry, they think business, email or texting. The iPhone, whether intentional or not, almost promotes the use of the use for a casual us...

Question: Where the f*ck do you people live that you're constantly bitching about AT&T's coverage. I'm no AT&T fanboy but I find it completely and utterly ridiculous that people complain about their coverage.

I have gone to many major cities in this country both by plane and car and never had problems with AT&T. You people must must live in the f*ckin sticks or something seriously.

AT&T's coverage isn't as bad as some of you are making it out to be. You just live in the damn sticks and don't want to admit it. That's some of the sarcrifices you make and besides, what the f*ck do you need 3g ce...

so you are calling 90% of the country the sticks? Unless you live in a major city your chances of 3g with ATT are slim, and believe it or not, a ton of people live in these things people call suburbs and commuter towns.

Heck, the city near me is hundreds of thousands of people, no att 3g around. Does that make it the sticks?

And while I'm an AT&T user, and live in a well covered suburb. What makes you think people living in the rural areas don't want good coverage and broadband access? As well as they should get it.

From what I've noticed...AT&T's 3G network covers most metropolitan areas, including surrounding suburbs.

...but then again, I don't even really mind EDGE. Like, I am a 24-year-old and I remember when I was on dial up. I feel grateful to have even 2G speeds on my phone. If there is no 3G, I don't flip out and think it's outrageous. I just keep surfing at a slower pace.

I am paying $250 per month for four lines. As a consumer, I have no plans to settle when paying that amount of money. I want the best coverage and call quality. I do not think it is unreasonable to also clamor for a better selection of phones as well. Which is why I keep hoping that the Iphone lose its exclusivity with AT&T.

You are an idiot plain and simple, people who start out I'm not a _______ are very usually what they say they aren't. So in your case you are a ATT fanboy that doesn't want to admit it. Just look at a ATT 3G map and see for yourself, they only cover major metro areas, but if you add up all the population of the top 20 cities of the U.S, it still doesn't come close to the rest of the country's population, therefore there is a gripe with ATT's 3G coverage. Just because most Americans don't live in the top 20 cities in the United States like yourself does not mean they live on top of the Rockies or in Death Valley, all you doing is making yourself out to be a condescending ignorant fool.

There's a map for that.

Sorry...I just had to do it!! ATT suits my needs just fine where I live and travel, so I tolerate it for the iPhone.

I am an ex-AT&T employee. I never canceled my Alltel phone while working for them because of their poor coverage. If I lived in a major metropolitan area where having coverage was not a concern (and I never planned to travel) I would be a Sprint customer. They have the best plans.
