Does this mean I can watch CBS or some thing like that on a phone? What about putting this stuff on a laptop?

This is bad news for Qualcomm's Media Flo service. People are going to stop paying for something that they can get for free. Plus there are more channels on DTV OTA broadcasting than mediaflo. The only way they may survive is by offering more premium channels in their lineup.

Mobile TV over the air will mean less revenue for telcos but it will also free up capacity on their data networks. This standard should have been ready when the transition to digital TV occurred but better late than never. Mobile digital TV has been available on cellphones and other portable media equipment in other countries for years. I see this as a win-win situation for consumer.

Well, I think the reason we have it late is because ATSC (US Digital TV standard) was ratified before DVB (The European one), and at that time, nobody thought people would use phones for things other than phoning. Also, there were some technical issues (modulation and such) regarding mobile antennas vs fixed antennas, and they had the to fix those problems.

I hear a few stations are testing it. Hopefully, every local station will broadcast mobile TV in a year.

yeah but the big question is what handsets will support it? Cause you know carriers only want handsets that support their services, and if theres a feature on a phone that enables somebody to get something for free that otherwise they'd be charging for such as MediaFLO, the carriers would be against it. In which case an unlocked/unbranded handset comes in handy. Hopefully Nokia will come out with some NSeries handsets that will support MobileDTV!!!!!

Hmmm... I've never seen a translator like that. Do you have that because you're in a valley and can't receive signals from SF?

Well, we are over 100 miles northwest of SF, and surrounded by mountains so we can't get OTA TV without that. There are no tv stations up here, in fact, there are none between Santa Rosa and Eureka. A lot of areas are actually served by translators, more about them from the FCC-
