AT&T: Tethering on iPhone Still Needs Work
I wonder what "ready" means according to ATT
Besides, ATTs network isn't worth tethering over, or any of the big 4 really. My next payday I'm getting internet service from a TRUE wireless broadband company, one that doesn't bring SHAME to the word broadband, of course I'm talking about Clear and their 3-6mbps with bursts of up to 10mbps. Their speeds aren't a joke like the big 4.
Their stock will only continue to go up and up. Yesterday it was only $8, but you watch I betcha by this time next year it'll be close to $25...just a guess.
The iPhone is still AT&T's flag ship. You cant mention AT&T without also mentioning the iPhone in the same conversation.
With each passing day people find something the iPhone cant do because as "revolutionary" as the iPhone "was" it was and is lacking.
MMS, Tethering, Multi-tasking, the ability to open files on any computer without Itunes, and simple perks such as Push Email (for free) are only a few of the things the iPhone simply cant do (without being hacked).
At this point, the Iphone is just like T-Mobiles Sidekick (not in the tech sense but in the Hyp...

I am not talking about a unlocked Iphone neither. We talking straight out the Box.
Things someone who is not Tech savvy can do before they leave the store the got the phone from.
If you want, I will start.
The Iphone can not Tether. No SD card, No extended battery, no Flash.
Tell me the process to add a Ringtone from a song not purchased through Itunes.
Can you add a ringtone for SMS message?
A ringtone for Voicemail?
Can you create shortcuts on the homescreen? for example, I use Bluetooth a lot and would like to have a app on the homescreen that allows me to turn bluetooth on and off without going through the settings.

Speaking about batteries- there are several companies that offer EXTENDED batteries in their cases- this not only increases the battery life of the iPhone but also makes it more ergonomic than carrying around 2 batteries.
To add a ringtone to your iPhone-
1)Drag and drop the song from iTunes into Garageband.
2)edit out up to 40 seconds of the song
3) save as "iTunes Ringtone"
it really is that simple!!! and is cheaper than buying a $2.99 ringtone on your 8900
You cannot assign a ringtone as voicemail... but then again i dont want to listen to a 40 second clip of "Im on a Boat" because my wife wanted me to know shes home safe.
you cannot a...

How does that Extended battery case work exactly? I have a Rubber grip around the iPhone right now. Would i Have to give that up so that I can use the Extended case? (thats not a bad option, if so, ty for the answer).
Your steps for adding ringtones doesnt help me. I dont want to create a Ringtone I only want to add one. I already have ringtones created (they are -35 seconds long because if my phone rings more then that, I want it to go to the answer machine). What is Garageband? Save as iTunes Ringtone? I looked up how to add ringtones and the steps where: Upload to iTunes, right click, create ACC version, delete A...

You do realize that you only made my points more valid right? For that I also thank you.
Your a scrub. Your mother should have swallowed. We get up! 1!
1) I should not have to jailbreak my iPhone in order to tether
2) It has very limited multi-tasking capabilities. Leaving Pandora OPEN just to listen to it is lame.
3) Like he said, I want a "You've Got Mail" tone for SMS. No need for a 40 second ringtone.
4)Speaking of which, you said "for the same reason above" without giving a valid reason...
5) If I tether with an iPhone, wouldn't it charge the phone since it's plugged into the USB, thus nullifying your battery drain excuse?
Has anyone else had this problem? Is it my headset or does the skip function not work for the iPhone using a Stereo Bluetooth headset?
Im not gonna complain about the speakers because I knew (coming from a iPod Touch) that iPod products have poop speakers, but, damn. It has some nice base to it but it simply really isnt that loud. It sound...

We are ready to debate this whenever you are. Can I use a simple phone like the 8900 to compare? Its not even a touchscreen phone.
Just to get ahead of myself a little, my 8900 can do all of the things I mentioned above.
ok, your go. Im not your average Troll.
But setting that aside; ATT has had the power, cash and time to fix years of a tattered network but chose not to. This was brought on by themselves and the subscribers are suffering greatly. A recent poll from several census reports say that 91 percent of iphone users(down from 99) are happy with the phone but 72 percent of those users(up from 60), Say they are completely dissatisfied with the netw...

I pay my bill on time and in full every month, end of sentance.
I own MY phone, not ATT, and NOBODY can tell me what I can and can't do with MY phone!!!
I'm a much, much different consumer than most.
Isn't Phone Scoop a place for cell phone enthusiasts, and not people who are mouthpieces/spokepersons for corporations. ATT has spokespeople, of which I don't listen to because it's all scripted & official.
It's sad that you care more about a corporation and they're TOS than being an actual consumer!!!!
I tend to use the Bluetooth feature (On/Off) alot because I use a Stereo BlueTooth headset when im on the move but deactivate it when I get where im going. Why can I not find a easier way to turn my BlueTooth on and off? No app in the app store is afford for such a simply task. I have to go through the settings menu to do it and its, well, not for the lazy.
Then, last night, I decided to transfer some of the ringtones I have from my SD card to the iPhone. 1st I had to install them into iTunes.....ok, done. Then i have to change the format, create a acc version, delete, sync, rename from m4a to m4r, install, place in folder A, and, and, and, and, wow! Are you serious? Al...

As far as the three phones in its class Android, Pre and iPhone, none can tether without a TOS issue. Only WM, BB and Symbian phones can do it and depending on how one does it, one can be breaking their TOS.
As for the Bluetooth On/Off Switch; on your Magic, go to the Market place and search for Bluetooth App. You will find FREE apps that will give you easier access to your Bluetooth On/Off switch. Its a simple App really. I had one for WiFi also but Im speaking about Bluetooth right now. I had such a app on the G1 for example. I dont see why you couldnt get it on the Magic.
Also, Versed, I agree that its not that difficult to go through the settings. The problem I am having is; after taking the steps to get to the spot in the settings I then have to wait for the Bluetooth to be found (takes about 1...

I haven't checked the market for the app, but it might be worth getting. To be honest, I just leave it on. I'm still waiting for Rogers/HTC to toss up 1.6 for download for their Magic. Since its not a Google Experience Phone like the MyTouch it has to be done manually. Otherwise except for the Rogers Magic having a 32a (more memory) motherboard vs. 32b, they are the same phone.
