True, there has been tethering for quite sometime on a WinMo phone, or Blackberry, but then again those phones are probably not targeted for the mainstream consumers, like the iphone is.

Its not apple to blame here, Its At&t. They're network wont handle the data usage. the phone will just need a ota update and its ready. Its at&t. 😉

Yes it does need just and update. But it can't do an OTA update. Since it always has to be plugged in. OTA=Over the Air. Iphone is not OTA compatible.

u know i never hear T-Mo complaining about data when i Tether my Jailbroken I(diot)Phone Maybe Apple should have released it on T-Mobile's supposedly Inferior Network infrastructue thats gonna have 7.2 hasdpa waaaay before at&t gets tethering working lol. 😛

True but you would never be able to use an iphone on TMO's 3g network. And any AWS phone you have at present, or even the near future, even those real sweet one's don't support 7.2.

To be honest, what I would like HASDPA for is for a data card. In anycase if it came down to that, I'd wait for LTE or WiMAX.
