3G data speeds aren't good enough for this.

I've been using my N95 to watch videos on my laptop recently and 3G really sucks for watching video!

Recently I have seriously been considering getting Verizon 4G for web browsing if they launch Las Vegas before the end of next year.

Perhaps the experience streaming to the mobile will be different than tethering the handset as a modem and watching streaming video on your laptop?

Hmm, well is Sprints supposed 4G capable of 8-12mbps, cause that's what Verizon claims they're 4G network will be putting out at launch.

I suppose the encoding will be for 320 x 240 resolution screens. So since the bitrate will be a lot less. Lets wait for somebody to actually use this service and share a user experience.

Or you could have WiMAX now Jay. It was launched in Vegas last month. I heard it's awesome.

Does Clear have one of those evil data limits?

To be perfectly honest Jay, I didn't ask him. He was out conducting the test. From everything I've heard, there is not a limit "currently". Price was around 60 bills. Speed was around 5.2.mb. Nothing to sneeze at and plenty fast for my needs.

$60? The advertisements say $50 for both home & mobile, I'm talkhng about Clear. Personally I don't know why anybody would need a wireless modem for home, when a wireless usb modem works just fine for either laptop or desktop.

50 bills is a great deal! I am rather jealous that you have access to the nations first 4G network and I do not. I guess it is true that what is seen Vegas, stays in Vegas! Lol. At least for now.I will have to wait till I think they said second quarter. NY is slated for that.

Since there are currently no WiMax phones, it really doesn't help in regards to this service.

Yet! Rumors are speculative, But Sprint is to have a handset by end of first quarter of next year. However, if you want lightning fast broadband speeds now(which Jay is interested in), There is currently no better option. It's their in Vegas for his taking. I am rather jealous. We are not due to get it till next year.

The initial rollout of 4G is probably going to be for laptop cards, not phones.

There are already 4G capable Air Cards. Ready to go and access 4G speeds for your LapTops.

As for 4G phones..... Nobody knows of any out now nor does anybody know of any due to arrive in the near future. This simply means to me, we wont be seeing a 4G phone until 3rd or 4th quarter of 2010 if we are lucky. One can only hope for 2nd quarter but while your hoping, play the lotto too (or in Jays case, play the BlackJack Tables 🙂.

Jay, I think the 4G Air Cards from Sprint might be something worth looking into for your LapTop needs. Wouldn't hurt to at least check on prices for service in your area. I know you can simply tether (which to some extent is free service for your laptop) but tether cant be compared to a 4G Air Card with service....
