Common sense would say that if Verizon is going to go thru all the cost, time and effort to put out a new technology such as LTE, then by golly they should have a few phones available to access it when someone turns the switch on.

I recalled when Vcast first became available there were Vcast phones in my area 1 yr before Vcast came to my home area. Why did we have Vcast phones here without Vcast service? Because other areas had Vcast and Verizon only 'pushed' those Vcast phone for about 1 month into Vcast service areas, then those phones went everywhere including my home area that got Vcast 1 yr or so later on.

Need any more proof??

True. When they built out EV-DO they pushed VCast phones AND the VCast VPak in markets where EV-DO was not available yet. But that won't happen with this LTE launch according to the article. The original question was: Are there any LTE handsets available commercially yet and at this time there are not. Of course there will be in 2010.

Heck even MetroPCS will have an LTE phone by this time next year, or so it's been reported that they will.

They'll most likely have 4g aircards at the start of the mass rollout, and will have a handful of high end smartphones with 4g by the end of the year (maybe an enhanced media device as well).

Remember, these phones will have 4g, EVDO, and 1x-rtt radios in them (in addition to any global roaming options) so don't expect to see any "basic" phones with the tech for awhile, but you'll see higher end phones before 2011

Probably correct. Keep in mind that LTE will probably be data only for the forseeable future.

Probably late 2010 right?

Do you think Verizon will increase the stupid data cap? So that people will actually be able to use these blazing fast speeds for multimedia and not just regular web browsing?

3G will stay at 5GB (They are talking about rasing it to 10 or so I think). LTE will be unlimited. They already said they want 4G to be used for file sharing, video calling, and downloading and watching TV, movies, ect.
