What good is a hot phone if it drops calls or can't get 3G coverage? Let's see, cool phones with crap network or semi-cool phones with strong network. Kinda like having a Ferrari with nothing but dirt roads to drive it on.

Your whats called a fanboy! Fanboys are biasted! Well guess what, I'm a real world consumer, Im not bias by working in the wireless industry. I've been with ATT for almost 8yrs, obviusly they can't be that bad if I've been with them for 8yrs, and they can't be that bad if they have what 78+ million customers.

I'm not a fanboy, I just have a problem that ATT isn't anywhere as ambitous as Verizon is when it comes to they're network. And no I'm not switching to Verizon, I'm switching to Tmo because I like the Nokia N900. See, I praise Verizon for ambitously deploying LTE !!AND!! I praise Tmo for skipping HSPA 7.2 and going straight to HSPA+. I praise ANY carrier who is ambitous. ATT is not ambitous.

well i feel AT&T is ambitous, but it takes patients, and time. Me, I'm a patient person, my 3GS runs 1.5 mps. and im happy with that. i rarely use data that much. verizon is deploying LTE and going above, but i had them and they suck. other people might like them which is cool, but not me. I would however will go to T-mo, they have good coverage in my area also and its sim based. GSM is the way to go

Do you get 1.5mbps on avg? Cause I do get that speed, just not regularly. Recently though I got as high as 2.2mbps on my N95.

My god jay, between you and mobile mafia, I feel dumber for having read all of your phonetic spelling. And I do mean Mobile mafia is as bad as you are in the spelling department. Mobile, its patience, not patients. Good job!

All this talk of Sim-based phones is fine, but something is being forgotten. This News story is about LTE... and LTE uses Sim-cards. Regardless of carrier. Its part of the technology.

🤣

I was wondering when someone will just shut them all up. lol. They didn't even know LTE was SIM card based lol. Now what will they say about verizon? I have sprint and always had a interest in Verizon but their plans are just too much for me. I had Cingular first and loved their customer service but I had a lot of dropped calls in Denver 80205 zip code which is "In" the city. So right now I think I will stick with sprint plus their being backed by clearwire, google, and comcast. So I think their future looks cool as far as the exclusive products and service they will get versus the others.

Oh and I had T-mobile and They sucked on data! and Phones was ugly. how many smart phones do they have? Dont answer that anybody, I was think...

The new LTE network is not only SIM based but it is GSM. Do you really think that Verizon can roll out a new GSM network and have as good of coverage as AT&T or T-Mobile instantly. When they roll out their new GSM network it will have holes all over in it and will generate lots of complaints just like AT&T did when they converted to GSM. The only reason Verizon remains on top is because of its CDMA network, that older system is less likely to drop calls because of the way it works, but they will never move into the 21st century until they move over to GSM. AT&T experienced lots of problems when they first converted to GSM and so will Verizon.

WTF are you talking about? 🤨

You make no factual sense. CDMA handles data better then GSM was the reason Verizon stuck with it. GSM was the standard for the most of the world so AT&T jumped on the wagon. It was basically no BIG benefit of going either way. It was just preference and hope that which ever way your company went was going to become the standard. Which non became the US standard, US has no Standard and even with LTE will be no standard. GSM has nothing to do with them dropping calls. Its the Mgh/ radio frequency that each company uses that helps the drop call ratio not the cdma VS GSM. Sprints waves go further and verizons simply penetrate through material better such has basements and buildings, and thats due to the freque...

I agree, LTE is not GSM. That's like saying CDMA is TDMA, or EVDO is HSPA. That don't make sense. LTE is a whole new format of wireless technolgy. If LTE was GSM then why in the world would carriers like AT&T and T-Mobile need to upgrade? They already run on GSM, oh thats right, because LTE is different!

And who cares which technology is older? CDMA works better than GSM. And nobody know if LTE will be worse or better yet! They are still field testing it, so nobody knows better than the ones actually developing it. It could be better than CDMA for all we know. But I'm not worried because the news release said that Verizon is overlaying the LTE network, meaning they'll keep their CDMA/EVDO network operational for some time.

From my reading here on phone scoop, and other areas, LTE is like GSM on steroids with some traits of CDMA.

What is the take home message is that with the recent spectrum auction, Verizon and AT&T were both the major winners. Then a short time later it was announced that both of them were agreeing to goto LTE as the next generation of Wireless technology. When I looked at the map of new spectrum I came away with the impression that once both companies get the LTE network up and running I as a verizon customer may someday be roaming on AT&T LTE towers occ when I am traveling around the US and sometimes an AT&T customer may roam on Verizon's LTE towers when away from his/her home area.

There are areas where AT&T LTE may be better build ...

probably not since most of the world will use LTE as their GSM successor, we might be able to see nice looking, fancy phones on verizon.

of course, they could lock it in such a way that only devices they approve will be allowed on the network, or write their own firmware in every device they sell.
