Bluetooth or speakerphone doesn't count for anything?

Not just holding a cellphone, but there are numerous, numerous other potential distractions, kids misbehaving, maybe spilling a drink, or maybe someone lives in Las Vegas and is just a dumbf**k driver. It just seems as though some people think cell phones are the ?ONLY? potential distraction that exists!!!

BT counts for a lot. All cars if they are going to throw fits about this and make it law should have a $30 bluetooth car kit from the factory, just like seatbelts are law.

The list of distractions is crazy long. That press conference is going to take days;makeup, food, magazines, drugs (legal, illegal, perscription, OTC), passengers, etc.

Can we also legislate against blinkers being on for miles?!

That bottom one was funny! Legislate against blinkers being on for miles. I don't know how someone can just forget that they're blinker is still on, it does beep when it's on!

some cars beep, some don't. But it just shows they aren't focused on driving. Flip the switch and forget. They need to focus, bad drivers.

p.s. don't drive after breaking up

I agree. Make-up for the ladies should be looked into, CD's and radios cause a ton of distractions, food, as aforementioned, and a list too long for this character limit to mention. BT is a great solution. I'm ok with the text thing to a point, but they're called MOBILE phones. If a car isn't mobile use of a mobile phone, I don't know what is. This is just another soapbox crusade that will most likely go nowhere.

unless its a car in front of the trailer used for spare parts and kids play ground. Still has a Dish attached to the mobile home. So Dish should be mobile if its attached to a "Mobile" home, hahaha

Car phones came before cellphones! Way back in the 80's! Nobody seemed to have a problem with those?

Haha good call. I saw an old episode of "Hawaii 5.0" and the guy had a rotary dial corded home phone in his car.

If people weren't idiots it wouldn't be an issue. Simply put, if you have to look at the phone to make a call, you should wait until you are stopped to make the call. It is never OK to text and drive, no matter how good you think you are at doing it.

I'm opposed to legislating this type of thing, but sadly the number of injuries and deaths that are caused by the idiotic need to always be using a cell phone mean that it is coming. Several state and municipal governments have already addressed the issue, it is only a matter of time before the federal government does as well.

Oddly enough, every time I come across this conversation I'm forced to think about all of the things I am forced to do when flying. It isn't unusual to be talking ...

Well in aircraft you are not feet from another aircraft constantly.

But I do agree that its not cell phones that are the problem, its stupid people. Honestly they shouldn't let people drive till they are 18. Have you ever met a 16 year old who is mature enough to drive? They learn these bad habbits as kids and it carries over into adulthood.

I do text when I'm in the car but only at a stop light. Never when I'm driving. I have voice dialing so I do make calls when I'm moving but I'm not looking at my phone.

One last thing, if anyone remembers this. When I got my first cell phone, nokia 3390, in the instruction book on the first page it said not to operate the phone while driving. I don't see that in the books anymore.

My dad would love this phone 🤣. He wants to make a phone the size of keybord so he can text easier. Now how stupid would look? girls would have to carry backpacks to carry the phones 🤣

uh... hmm. There was speakerphone wasn't there? That one is kinda tough because you enter the realm of private and public conversations.

How could they enforce us (back then or now) to use spearker phone without invading our privacy? Thats a good point Jayshmay, I'm not in a position atm to debate it. I'll give you this one if you want it. 1 for you. 🙂

I would be ok with this if bluetooth devices were given away for free or a voucher (like the digital tv thing). Then no one would have an excuse. Thats the only way it will work....except for the fact that the companies would be losing money instead of the customers having to give them money.

Dont you just love GREED???

I do not believe it is that simple.

There have been numerous studies which seem to indicate that talking on a phone while driving (regardless if it is handsfree) is tantamount to driving while intoxicated.

Here's an excerpt from the article:

The scientists did their drinking during a pilot to the main study, which involved 40 volunteers.

By participating, the researchers gained insight to what makes people think they can drive safely while using a cell phone or when drunk. They're now advocating for laws to a

I cant recall a recent moment when I disagreed with you Jayshmay, but this has to be one of them. Although I see and agree with your point, I also believe every little bit helps. It doesn't say you cant use Bluetooths, I believe they mean the actually cellphone to the ear thing.

I have to say I agree. I myself am guilty of using my cellphone while driving (without bluetooth) and while doing so I can see the dangers. You may not have both hands on the wheel (auto) or 1 resting on the shift. Maybe you do have both hands on the wheel but then your driving with a tilted head trying to keep the phone on your shoulder. Your also trying to pay attention to more then you need to (the road AND your call). On top of all these things, yes, there is...

Yeah, people eating and/or sipping coffee or other drinks, men shaving, women applying make-up, either gender grooming their hair etc. I know we are all in a rush in the morning to get somewhere, but come on. Can't you get up a few minutes earlier and shave or put that make-up on before getting into a car?
