Don't Back Down Nokia
I liked the original statement better. It is disappointing that Nokia is backing down here. If we could take handset selection and customization away from carriers that would be a step toward customers buying directly from manufacturers and no more subsidization hopefully or need for contracts. THEN we would have true competition. No more selecting a carrier because they have an exclusive on the neatest toy.

Looks like this would be one of the phones if you really love it, is one that you should get direct from Nokia or reliable reseller without carrier branding.
My feelings is wait and see, I've haven't been impressed with Nokia in the past year, I hope this can change my mind. If I was to buy one, I sure won't be the first one on the block with it.
BTW, I do have an e71 and N95. Returned the 5800, didn't care for it, and wasn't impressed with the N97, so I am not a hater. Also cost, I wonder what this sux0r is gonna go for? And in that, another reason to sit on it for a few months.

I was afraid this might happen. Nokia's phone was probably ringing five minutes after that announcement, with a menacing mouthpiece from a major carrier on the other end. Sadly, they don't have a device anywhere near as compelling as the iPhone to let them assert their independence yet. That's what all these manufacturers don't seem to understand yet - its ALL about the power and usability now. People want a pocket computer that also makes phone calls, and thanks to Apple, they now expect it. Nokia's announcement about a netbook floored me - their going about it completely backwards. We want a PHONE thats as useful as a computer, NOT another PC to lug around! You're not going to get anywhere with a MID/UMPC/whatever unless it runs an ...
