Wow folks its the Last Ditch Effort To Keep From Going Out Of Business Plan...Hope it works.

Gotta try something when the other companies add subscribers and Sprint continues to lose them.

Sprint still has 49 million subscribers and they only leave because they think the grass is greener on the other side because people "like you" talk bad about Sprint when if you look @ the data they arguably have the best newtork - they def. have the best data network - especially since they have 4G now... dropped calls for AT&T/Verizon/Sprint all w/in 1% - Sprints customer service is now on par w/ everyone elses - First 4G and now this.... then when customers pay $20-$50ish more per month and see no improvement on their coverage they kick themselves.

If you reread my post I have said nothing bad about Sprint. I WAS a happy customer for over 5 years and would go back again. However all those people who jumped ship for the so called greener grass are shared customers by all carriers. So apparently the others are doing something right to convince those people to jump ship and Sprint hasnt figured it out yet. So its about knowing how to run your business and Sprint has apparently failed miserably.

...Which is exactly my point. I wont say which carrier I currently work for but I have at one point or another sold all but T Mob. Customers in this industry talk bad about each and every carrier and are never satisfied. So to the original respondant, people talkin bad about Sprint is not the reason they are in such a bad position.

People even badmouth their own carrier.

I once had a customer with VZW, I asked how happy he was with them and he said "I can't stand them." When I asked why, he said "I keep dropping calls where I work."

Here's the kicker:

When I asked why he stay's with them, he said "they have the best coverage."

People are so sucked in by the hype that they will ignore things that can be better for them.

can someone please answer this question. if sprint is going out of business how can it OVIOUSLY afford to comeout with new phone after new phone. and not only are they droppin out simple what ever phones how can they magically afford touchscreen phones. pda phones. phones that actually come straight from the box with gps, mms, or even video straight out the box. and they arent crippled.

someone please answer this question.

and if sprint IS going out of business is because ya giving it a bad name. you probably were dropped for something as simple as not paying your bill

Again read all the posts in this thread and do your homework.

I had Sprint for over 5 years and worked for them for 2. I have not one complaint and I always had cutting edge equipment. However the facts are that in the first 2 quarters of this year Sprint lost customers while AT&T and VZW added. The name of the game is to increase revenue and add customers...Period!!

BTW Ive been in the wireless industry over 12 years...Cant remember the last time I had a phone bill..

everyone looks at the bad side what about the other 49 mill they still have. which pay avrage 100-300 depending on plan and lines. thats a pretty big number...

until sprint is down to like 3 mill then thats something to worry about..

The only thing I can think of HONESTLY is that Sprint approved sub-prime customers extremely easily especially during the Nextel days. Sub-prime customers are known to churn more for a lot of reasons; some like not paying their bills etc. The same customers prob. account for about 15-25% of churning customers for Sprint if I had to make a guess for things that THEY ARE to blame for and they have unreasonable expectations of getting their problem fixed so they think Verizon would be better (for example) - I've worked for Sprint for 5 years, love the company, 95% of customers are great, the other 5% are horrible. There are a lot of sub-prime customers and a lot of the time for example they'll .... drop their phone in water and not pay their...

Don't blame the exodus of Nextel customers on their credit rating...blame it on a culture clash. Before the "merger of equals" Nextel boasted the most loyal customers in the industry and high ARPU...very attractive. But the fact that iDEN was a dead evolutionary path was a hindrance. Sprint never should have purchased Nextel. Simple as that. The spectrum gained wasn't worth this bleeding of subscribers in my opinion. It just wasn't a good fit. They are still recovering from that and the outsourced horrible customer service in India as well. As a consumer, I want more carriers to exist...not less. I hope Sprint pulls out of this.

Ten years here and I DO have phone bills...dependents. In any event, if Sprint just stood by idly and attempted to do NOTHING to stop the exodus of customers then THAT would be cause for concern. The fact that they are not sitting on their as$es but are actually trying new features and releasing exclusive phones like the Pre and more importantly are talking up their network are all good signs that there is still fight left in them.

For those who cite Sprint losing customers as a reason for going out of business. Here is some incite. Sprint is finally cleaning up. Most people know that the Nextel Sprint merger caused problems with Sprint but most people don't understand why. For the last 4 years since the merger Sprint and leftover Nextel execs have been fighting about how to carry on the company. Sprint's idea is much like Verizon buy up what you want toss who doesnt want to be there and move on. Nextel was about customer loyalty. Finally something clicked and now Sprint gets it. Customer loyalty is what really drives your company. Its why pre merger Nextel who had less coverage that Tmobile was so popular. Its why Tmobile is so popular now. Verizon and ATT ...

So explain this to me, other than the differences in tech IDEN/CDMA, why did Sprint have so much trouble merging the billing systems and Cingular/AT&T didn't.

I've been with Cingular since January of 02 AT&T didn't give me any problems during the merger.

Bottom line...it's a great feature. If your carrier had it you would be braying how great it is to the wind. Since they don't all you can do is dwell on something immaterial to the discussion.

When other companies do this it's good marketing when Sprint does it's them trying to stay afloat. Anyone else smell troll? It's a good business move and we we move closer to what will eventually happen all companies will have basically the same plans as everyone else.

Troll Huh...Call it what you want. I believe this is a discussion board and I achieved exactly what I wanted...a discussion. I like to hear the opinions good and bad and I truly believe this is an amazing offer by Sprint. The question becomes will the subscribers gained be enough to offset the costs of offering such a plan? Only time will tell. Thanks for playing.
