The only reasons carriers ever do their own UI programming is to A) control what users can/cannot do, Verizon's MO or B) highlight/promote/make-impossible-to-avoid the various for pay carrier services that increase ARPU. Neither of these is helpful toward making the UI of a phone more useful.

It won't make a huge difference unless Maemo somehow magically travels back in time to kill Google & Apple's moms before they can give birth to the revolution, but it's still nice to see the phone maker saying & doing the obvious.

Couldn't..agree..more 😎 Nokia has seen its products crippled for FAR TOO LONG. It has done NOTHING to help them sell products and has damaged their reputation. Three cheers!
