What happened to not having to upgrade hardware to get OS updates?

I've read many complaints that Windows Mobile users had to upgrade/change their hardware in order update the OS while Apple supported all versions of their hardware. Is this the first case where they haven't?

It's upsetting that I'll have to pay an extra $10 per month AND shell out $100-200 to get MMS when new hardware doesn't seem to be necessary.

Darn thing still won't fully multi-task either.

As far as the MMS thing, I went over that in a previous post, as far as cost per month, it is the same cost as a Blackberry, WM or any PDA phone. And essentially the same cost as if you were using VZW for a PDA/BB phone. So if you bitch about the cost of an iphone plan, bitch the same about the cost of the above mentioned. Do I think all in all across the board its high, sure it is.

You miss the point.

It isn't merely the cost of the plan. It's Apple supporters constantly bringing up the iPhone as a device that doesn't get left behind (read: you don't have to buy new hardware to get new software). So, because my 1st Gen' iPhone has been left behind, I have to spend $100-200 for new hardware if I want new software that my CURRENT phone can support.

I know that selling my old iPhone will off set a majority of the cost of upgrading to a new iPhone, but it's the principle!

Am I no longer using a revolutionary device?

You do have a point, but you're also talking about a device 2 years old. Look at the BB's, WM of circa June 2007 compared to now.

you have to pay even *more* for MMS? that's not included in either the data or texting plan? so let me get this right, unlimited voice, data, text, and mms will run $160?

I think $150. Glad I'm with Sprint, only $99 for everything including stuff ATT and Vz charge extra for: navigation, TV, streaming radio. People talk about Sprint all they want, I have more money in my pocket for a whole lot more. 😉

That's right! And a better service. Everybody loves to hate Sprint (I was there a year ago), but when it comes down to the actual performance of the networks, I would literally gladly pay $160 for Sprint if I could get the same for $99 with AT&T.

No, ATT has already stated you will not have to pay extra for MMS. Don't know why he OP said you would. but you don't. It's included.

Your phone has a 2 mp camera with no flash, it doesn't work real well when your hands are cold, it has 8 or 16 gb of storage with no sd card support, a non-removable battery and has a hard to modify user interface, and all of this works on the 2G network.

I don't know how to put this lightly, but you have never been using a revolutionary device.

You can't expect Apple to support a device that is over 2 yrs old, the fact that they still do updates on it is astonishing. So either upgrade or you can't send poorly lit photos to uninterested people.

Palm Pre, or G1, G2. Both are fantastic touch screen phones with 3G access, highly customizable interfaces. But hey if you are interested by an iPod Touch with a phone, be my guest.

Thats not fair mrpmpfan. You mentioned phones as of Today (2 years later). Mention some phones from 2 years ago. Even though I agree with you, I just don't want excuses.

BTW: The G1 got a Update that enhanced the Resolution of the screen. The iPhone is getting a Update that allows MMS. That in itself is leaps ahead wouldn't you say?

HTC Touch, came out in 2007 and was also a large touchscreen device. Difference? No $20 plan needed, could mms out of the box, had expandable memory card capability.

You are so lame, I just gave you a great example of a phone that came out around the iPhone and had features it didn't have.

And you are a moron. I was supporting your argument not debating it. In my 1st post to which you responded, I asked you to name phones from back then so that nobody could use that against you (in the same post I said I agree with you). You then mentioned a phone and I said "No Excuses!". Meaning cant nobody come up with a excuse now. You just called the guy who supported your comment a lame. Yeah! lol! I learned my lesson. Don't support someone on phonescoop, you never know what type of person you might be supporting. Thanks! Cya!
