Another phone I will not be able to add to my family plan.

I have my Niece, Nephew, Son and Wife under my plan. They do not require data. For me to get the Pre,Instinct or the new Hero, It would require me to either stand alone on my own plan or have everyone else under my plan to be charged an additional 10 dollars each. Either choice will cost me more than our alloted budget. I need to ask Sprint and their Reps why they can't just add the extra to my Phone only? It is only fair and makes sense. I have checked with TMO. They do not require this practice. My Niece and Nephew are in their first year of college and have made it clear that they will not pay the extra for something they don't have or want and I certainly am not willing to pay for what is not being used. Can someone clarify a sensible an...

Everything Messeging.

99 dollars for first two lines.
10 dollars for each of the three additional. I have the 15 dollar data. Insurance on 3 devices at 7 dollars each.

99
+30
+15
----
144 dollars a month
I block the data so no one can accidently access it.

If I get the pre or hero added to the family plan, I would have to upgrade to everthing which is 129 dollars first two lines plus three additional at 20 dollars each.

129
+60
----
190 dollars month.

That's 50 more than I want to spend. My niece and nephew don't want data.

So if I go on my own?
89 dollars for me.
99 for the others.
190 a month.

This adds minutes but we never go over. So I am no further ahead.
There is a definite setback here and I really...

Not to sound like a prick, but what is there to get?

It's a way to make money. Plain and simple. If you want the Hero, Instinct, or a Blackberry you HAVE to switch to an everything family plan, which increases your MRC which increases profit which Sprint desperately needs. If you want the phone, you have to get the plan. Having worked there before, there is really no way around this for reps, the system simply errors out.

That's the way it is on Sprint.

And for the most part the same on every other carrier. TMO forces people to use their data plan on their Android devices, if you try it with another plan, you will get locked out. I don't even think they will sell one to you w...

Versed,

I am not disputing the data plan pricing or the fact I am required to have it. I am disputing the practice of forcing everyone else under my plan to also carry data if I get the Pre,Instinct or Hero when I am the only one that wants it and the only one that owns a smartphone. Do you honestly feel this is justifiable? I don't.

BTW, The other carriers do NOT practice this. TMO and Verizon allow you to tailor your family plan.

I am a huge Sprint supporter. But mark my words, this practice will backfire if not attended to.

Sir, I stand corrected, and I guess misunderstood, I didn't realize Sprint required everyone on the plan to have your plan. That is crazy.

I think the issue he is referring to is the fact Sprint will make him pay for Everything Data on all lines when he only needs it on his line. He shouldn't have to pay for data on all lines, that is BS. I realize that is how Sprint is, but, its still BS. I know for Verizon, you can have a family plan where one line is "Premium" and other lines are either "Select" or "Basic"...where "Premium" has data, "Select" is messaging and "Basic" is well basic voice. The OP of this particular issue has point. If Sprint, didn't run itself so damned poorly, they wouldn't need to resort to extortion type requirements.

Slammer.....I have seen you post in here many times, and you are definitely an unabashed Sprint supporter, and for that I thank you.

However, you are not being railroaded by Sprint. I know it may seem this way, but it is the policy. You and I both know that those same plans you have would cost you a fortune on other networks. Price out a comparable plan with AT&T or Verion. See what you end up with. in the long run, it is a wash. You would end up right where you are with the everything data family plans on Sprint.

TMobile may be cheaper, but c'mon, who wants to leave blazing fast Sprint 3G for Edge?

I wish there were another way, but unfortunately there's not.

Where do you work? Sprint offers service discounts for thousands of companies. Even being a member of ANY credit union gets you 10% off your entire service. Depending on where you work, you can get fat discounts. For example, Wells Fargo employees get 27% off their MRC. If you work for airlines, or home depot, or other big names, usually your discount is 20%+. Try calling Sprint and asking what discount you can get.

Verizon will allow one phone with everything, and then the others will just have the shared voice/txt as well.. it's odd that they have that stipulation.. ah well, if things made sense, they wouldn't be corporate, right?

Best of luck getting this cleared up.

The new everything shared plans Sprint share plans are HEAVILY discounted plans VS AT&T & VERIZON. The plans already incorporate all the data and messages and doesn't allow add-ons to flagship phones. The 1500 min. Data plan is $70 cheaper per month than verizon and $20 per month cheaper than ATT. The 3000 minute plan is $90 cheaper than Verizon a month and $70 cheaper than ATT. The Everything plan is $120 cheaper per month than Verizon and $100 cheaper than ATT. T-MOs network isn't comparable so their not even worthy of comparing.

Yeah but on TMO's 3g, at least you can talk and do data at the same time, it isn't technologically inept like CDMA.

Saying sprint CDMA data is inept to TMOs 3g is laughable at best! They are just starting their 3G while Sprint already has 4G... They're only about 3 years behind.

You missed his point entirely. For many functions T-mobile and ATT's 3G is light years ahead of Sprints because of the concurrent data and voice ability.
I and the people I observe are using daa more and more often and the fact is Sprint (and verizon) cannot deliver both while ATT and T-Mobile can.

Cheaper does not justify what I am trying to convey. Considering that I am a continuous supporter of Sprint, I take this very seriously!

As Of Thursday night, my nephew has moved on and signed an account with his girlfriend on a different carrier because of this issue. He felt bad because he said he would not pay extra for something he didn't want thinking this was holding me back from getting the Pre. This now means I have two lines under my account that are active but no one is using. So by your approach in defending Sprint's policy, It is totally cool for Sprint to force me to have total data packages on the two lines NOT being used and a third line for a phone with no camera(a dumnphone). I think not sir and if you were on my side of...

Their plans are bundled and you seem smart enough to have known that when you signed the contract and if you can read. So since their bundled and such an awesome deal you can't "tailor" them. Just like cable companies may give you a better deal if you switch and add a landline... Even though I don't need a landline ill get a better deal? Its their decision to make their plans that way... And unfortunately the minority of people that don't benefit as much of the majority that does is so small its not worth changing an entire plan over, sorry.

Cable and cellphones are two different markets. Comparing the two, is not quite an accurate example.

Sprint can't afford to have potential customers walk out of their stores and end up at a competitor down the street. They need to keep an attraction valid for perspective buyers. Maybe Sprint should up the price plan slightly to cushion the flexability. Keep in mind, having the cheapest rates has not stopped the churn thus far. So clearly, the inexpensive factor is not working.

As stated before, Sprint has made many improvements and great strides. But they need to be as close to perfect as possible to regain interest. I don't shoot from the hip. I call it as I see it and it is what it is. I admire your dedication to Sprint. But I can n...

DE2Philly, you just don't get why people with family plans are leaving Sprint. That is a fact. Sprint continues to lose customers to this day to Verizon and ATT despite what you claim are lower prices.

You sound like the Sprint corporate people setting this policy and who are dumbfounded at why people keep LEAVING Sprint

Sprint effectively forces an upsell of EVERYONE. I have myself, my wife and my parents on my family plan. My parents don't need text or data. Sprint keeps INSULTING me by telling the everything will be cheaper and when they suggest the actual applicable everything plan it is always $28 more than what I have now and no better than Verizon for the same thing!

You seem unaware that Verizon will allow me to tailor which...
