The difference is that Google voice actually redirects calls. so even if you are making a regular call googles software will take over. skype and vonage apparently are applications

Google Voice also takes your contacts and other information and stores it on their servers...apparently...

You have to set it to sync your contacts before it will do that.

That way if someone calls your GV number, it will show up as them calling and not just your google voice number.

so am I hearing that there really isn't much of a difference? Maybe this is a political ploy to downplay the turning down of the Google Voice App?

Google Voice = Free calling to canada, and a free app to boot.

Vonage=allowing your home phone to ring through on your home phone, you pay for both services. Expect Vonage to have a cost associated with it, and Apple to take a kickback from it.

No real difference.
