I have a theory....

In my opinion, this is the best smartphone yet in wireless. However, I am thinking that the push for Sprint and TMO(which carries the variant of the TP2), is probably to get subscribers into their flagship devices. The Pre for Sprint and the Mytouch for TMO. These are direct competitors for the iphone. I Stopped in at TMO to check out the TP2. I told the Rep that I really liked it and he went completely out of his way to try to steer me away from the TP2 and get me into trying the Mytouch. I feel this maybe the reason for the jacked price. While it is not a huge jack, it may be enough to deter a potential TP2 customer away and into a more iphone like device. As a businessman, I like HTC and this device is a total winner and workhorse. I wonder why a rep would push one phone over another... Anyone work for T-Mobile? Do they offer a spiff for selling particular handsets?

I'm not sure if Reps are gaining any sort of concessional benefits, But it sure surprised me. I told him I really liked the TP2 and he said "Well have you seen the Mytouch?" This echoes a similar visit to another store. Worded differently, but eluded to the same premise. So I am not sure what's up with TMO on this.

There could be any number of reasons. They could have been told to push the MyTouch to get inventories down. The guy may have an honest preference for the device and believe his being helpful. He could be a Linux lover and/or Microsoft hater. Maybe he's seeing more returns on the TP2.

i would'nt put too much into that theory slammer, the rep that tried to push you to the my touch probably just knew more about the my touch than the tp2. i love learning about new phones and what they can do and i will say that the features (besides the market access) on the tp2 far exceed any features on the my touch or any other device for that matter. alot of employees are intimidated by the phone and dont want to take the time to learn all of the features because there are alot and are more comfortable with the mytouch. at least thats the problem in my store....
