Question 1. Why did Apple reject the Google Voice application for iPhone and remove related third-party applications from its App Store? In addition to Google Voice, which related third-party applications were removed or have been rejected? Please provide the specific name of each application and the contact information for the developer.
Contrary to published reports, Apple has not rejected the Google Voice application, and continues to study it. The application has not been approved because, as submitted for review, it appears to alter the iPhone’s distinctive user experience by replacing the iPhone’s core mobile telephone functionality and Apple user interface with its own user interface for telephone calls, text messaging and ...

What I think it's because this Google app is better than anything that has Apple & also because its FREE & non-restrictive.

Is the same with the new version of iTunes not letting Palm Pre users sync with their phones

Apple refuses to fess the truth. This is why they hold only ten percent of computer market shares. They need to drop the almighty ego.

This is the equivelant to a football team choosing who they will play against and who they won't.

I feel Apple makes a very good product. But being held to dictatorship and constraints in what I can have or not have, is not what I am about.

i dont get why people care so much that an app got denied, the FCC shouldn't either as it does not concern them in any way. it could very well be the truth that they are saying, that it does all that to their device, apple wants control of their device, they do not want anyone else taking control of their device. thats understandable.

This is how a monopoly starts. One app gets denied and then blocks all competition. This is not good for the consumer and slows the progression of technology. This also gives apple the ability to make more money and charge more for something that could possibly be free! 😎

A monopoly??? Diamond, this isn't how a monopoly starts. It's Apple's service, and they can do with it as they like. Denying anyone's app isn't going to create an unfair market, since the "market" is just a service for a device.
Everyone is bi$#@ing about Apple and their dictatorship, but it's THEIR service that THEY offer. If I owned a Cheverolet dealership and I let the neighboring Ford dealer put his cars on my lot for free, that would be poor business sense, since ...

Apple is leveraging the market share of their phone against against an application for that phone that competes with an apple app. This is in violation of anti-trust laws. Just ask microsoft and netscape

It only gets worse when you add the fact that google also makes an os that competes with the iphone. this will not go well for apple.

It actually doesn't violate anti-trust laws. Jeffro gave a perfect real world example of what this is the equivalent to. Ford cars in a chevy dealership. Why don't people get that?

And if anyone tries to claim apple is slowing technology, they need to look at apple's track record for innovation and design. If anything, apple has furthered it, and forced the industry to step up.

But seriously, can anyone find a copy of the "anti-trust" laws, and quote what is actually being violated, because really, apple is only restricting what THEY offer. Apple, doesn't HAVE to offer, GOOGLE apps. Chevy, doesn't have to offer Ford cars. Funny, aren't a ton of car parts proprietary? But no one whines like they do about apple. Everyone just hates on a...

Jeffro gave a perfect real world example of what this is the equivalent to. Ford cars in a chevy dealership. Why don't people get that?

Because its a terrible analagy. Imagine you own a chevy. And your chevy needs a camshaft, And now imagine that ford makes a camshaft for your car that gives you better gas mileage 20% more horsepower and costs less than the camshaft that chevy makes. But chevy, using a magical forcefield technology, can keep you from using your own money to put that camshaft on your own car.

This is the crux of the matter. Apple has used technology to accomplish something in the virtual world (locking down their phone) which could never be accomplished in the real world outside of an injunction. One which would n...

This might not seem like a big deal now but farther down the line if apple continues to get away with this it will only get worse. This is not the only application apple has gotten rid of because it competes with its own application. This is never good for customers.

Side note if apple could do whatever they wanted they would not be answering to the FCC. And the FCC would not be asking 3 major companies apple, att, and Google about the whole situation.

att has already blamed apple so it seems like apple has got some explanning to do.

And also ask why Rogers and some other companies didn't buy Google Branded Android phones? I admit not nearly as heavy handed as Apple but still.

or to provide its “Google-branded” user experience on other phones, including Android-based phones, and let consumers make their choices.

I think this was my favorite part. Translation: We don't really care if this makes you mad or not. If you want to get this product get a different phone.
