P.S.

You do know that on all the newer wi-fi capable smartphones, that at&t has crippled the wi-fi to only work if you have a data plan...it's something verizon has been doing for some time, and I wouldn't be suprised to see GPS crippled in the near future unless you subscribe to the navigator plan...hahaha

If you want the features, pay the money...if you want to sync your contacts and calendar, buy a RAZR and moto mobile phone tools....

The tilt is an old phone that came out before the crippling feature was implimented. Newer devices like the Blackberry 8900 can not access wifi without a data plan.

Verizon doesn't cripple wifi on their phones, they just never requested it. The phones with Wifi on them have wifi on them out of the box. You can even use it without activating the phone, let alone adding data (unless it is a newer device that requires data to activate).

They don't offer wifi hotspots like ATT does, and their 3gnetwork is more extensive so they didn't push as hard for it. But you'll notice that more of their devices are now switching to wifi, including blackberries (the new Curve and Storm, and Tour2 will have wifi)

Additionally, GPS is not crippled on any newer smartphone, meaning you can use Google/Blackberry maps just fine without VZ navigator.

These were both publically released news articles... perhaps y...

So? I am supposed to give an opinion article more weight than the countless customers I help install Googlemaps on their blackberries, or the Omnia owners I help configure their wifi?

Wifi is not disabled. IT IS NOT PRESENT. The phones made for Verizon are different models than the ones for ATT. There is not a single CDMA blackberry with WIFI out there.

The poster of that article doesn't know what he is talking about. If he has any blackberry of a Curve/Pearl or later model and he is running the updated software GPS is unlocked. They don't have "wifi" unlocked because they don't have wifi present in the devices.

There are several devices with wifi for verizon, just no blackberries (yet) but they clearly announced several month...

Yup, it's locked out in many AT&T phones.

What irks me, is that a cell data-based GPS program is unreliable when you need it most - when travelling or hiking, so cell signal can be spotty or absent.

If you want the features, pay the money...if you want to sync your contacts and calendar, buy a RAZR and moto mobile phone tools....

Even an unlimited data plan + Navigator subscription won't unlock a Samsung Jack for use by third party GPS apps.
