ill say this 1 more time.

IF U DONT WANT DATA OR WANT TO PAY FOR IT, GET A DIFFERENT PHONE OTHER THAN A SMARTPHONE!

this isnt about choice. u have the choice on what phones to get but u dont control what terms and conditions u have to follow to get that phone. if the $30 is too much for u or if u think its not needed then u dont need that phone.

at&t has plenty of other phones that r just txt and call based for u to get instead and they r probly cheaper too.

if u try to say this is racist youre an idiot.
if u try to say this is unethical youre also an idiot. if u say this is at&t forcing data on u because u bought a phone designed for data youre an idiot.

sprint VZW and tmobile all do this so stfu and deal with it if u wa...

That's great who are you the KGB? Last time I checked this is the USA where we as Americans can and should be able to express different views and engage in debate without intimidation or childish name calling. These tactics look all too familiar. Are you a Czar? LOL

The reason he said what he did was because of others (read some other threads) resorting to name calling when he said something simple like "Smartphone's are built for data."

And you're right, while most of us live in the US, and in the US we are allowed to express our opinions, this is a privately managed forum, so our only "rights" are what the owners give to us. Arguing free speech is only valid when you are talking about a public area/forum, not privately owned areas.

As a side note... comparing statements made about cell phones to the concept of free speech is rather silly.

There are several reasons why a person would have a pda with no data plan.

1. They want the status of having a glitzy expensive phone but do not feel the 30$ for data is worth it.
2. They want the ability to sync there calander and there address book.
3. They want the ability to view documents and presentations any where.
4. They have wifi at most of the places they go.
5. They bought a phone that was too complicated for them and they are stuck waiting till there upgrade and all they want is to make phone calls.
6. They have a PDA already to use for business apps and they do not want to carry 2 devices, they want the pda function and not the phone
7. smart phone make better media and mp3 devises then the other phones.

That is jus...

While I do not think that people who want smartphones without data plans are stupid, I find your reasons somewhat lacking for the most part.

This is almost a valid reason, except most of the data phones that AT&T carries are much bulkier and not as pretty as their non-smartphone devices.
2. They want the ability to sync there calander and there address book.
There are non-smartphone devices that do this (eternity, impression, SE C905a)
3. They want the ability to view documents and presentations any where.

1. at&t doesnt care if u want a cool looking phone. u pay for what u get not parts of it.
2.theres ways to go around that without having a data phone.
3.wouldnt u need data for that? if they r pre saved then print them out and take them with u.
4.depends if wifi is availible.
5.30 day buyers remorse
6.well thats not at&t problem if the customer has 2 phones and is picky.
7.get an ipod or an mp3 player. no monthly cost and cheaper that a phone sometimes.

there r was around get the things u need without getting a smartphone. if u still want one then u have to pay for what they come with.

ipod touch + skype + mic (unless the new one has a mic 😁) Then you will be cool in your hot spots and you will know that you are going green, screwing the cell industry and sticking it to the man by using skype and knowing that you are not paying for your free calls to other skype friends. You can even call me on skpye and I will talk back to you. I love Skype, or you can call using skype and if you pay for skype credit you will get like 10,000 min for I think $3 a month or less or something. It's so freaking nice and I love it. I pray the new ZuneHD has skype sometime. I'm torn between the two, new ipod or new zune ☚ī¸

im more of a microsoft fan so id say zune BUT they always seem to be 1 step behind apple

and this proves my point. no montly charge on an ipod or a zune but it can still do some things u want from a smart phone without hearing customer whine about data plans.

Is that honestly the best comment you can make? He made a point and you have ZERO argument against it, aand so you say something like that? Well, you are really showing off your intelligence, neh?

What was his point? I missed it. Is it that I should get a Non-Smartphone if I Dont want Data? How is that a vaild Point? Please show me where he made a point that Pocket_Girl ignored......

Unless... what you wanted was for Pocket_Girl to explain yet again why she should be able to own a smartphone without data. If thats the argument you want her to make, go look up ANY of her other comments on this matter.

Thank you and ... Nothing. Dont even bother having a nice day. Just Thank You!

thinking pocket has made any valid points proves your intellect. you want a smartphone. fine, just don't activate a new or upgrade one with att if you dont wanna pay the data plan rate. like i mentioned numerous times, verizon has been doing this exact 🙂 🙂 same thing for years withteir smartphones and no one cared then. att is STILL doing it with their iphones. did you forget that? no matter what any of you whiners say or do, att is doing this. and you complainers are so few that you will either have to shut up and pay or go somewhere else. you have two weeks. choose wisely.... 🙂

Thats not a point. Thats a opinion. He thinks I should get a different phone if I dont want Data.

A point would be more along the lines of "If you dont like what AT&T is doing, go to another carrier". Thats a point.

At which point I would simply say "Come to T-Mobile, I can set up ANY (thats right, ANY) Smartphone without Data. Been speaking to my DM's and Reps about this issue and in our district (Central P.A) we will NOT require Data on Smartphones.

Anyway. he made no point to argue so I'm happy she didnt even bother. I did, because I had the time to kill and simply just felt like it.

If you work for Tmobile and you activate a G1, MyTouch, or BlackBerry 8900 phone without a data plan, then guess what, you aren't following the guidelines tmobile instilled....so you're braggin about breaking coporate policy?

Aren't you the big man....grow up.

Corporate Policy? No sir. Maybe District Policy but not Corporate. I can, have and am allowed to continue to Activate Smartphones without Data. I work for T-Mobile Direct. No policy being broken here.

As for growing up and being the big man... I tried that. Big men have to be serious all the time (most the time) and have far more responsibilities then I wanted. I rather be the small man and not grow up. Keeps me young at heart and away from the problems I can simply point to the Big man and say "youll have to speak with him".

That aside, what exactly does me being a Big man or Small man have anything to do with this issue? Or is it simply that you are upset about not being able to do what I can and without a good response, you respond...

A data service is required for myTouch in order to access the phone's rich web functionality and features. When you select the phone, the myTouch Unlimited web + Unlimited Message service will be automatically added to your cart. You also have the option of selecting the Unlimited Web sevice. Taxes and fees are additional.

mytouch Unlimited Web + Unlimited Messages:
Unlimited Web access, unlimited domestic messages, Visual Voicemail :$34.99/month

myTouch Unlimited Web:
Unlimited Web access, Visual Voicemail: $24.99/month

That Is DIRECTLY QUOTED from the Tmobile website. So yes, guess hwat, that means it's part of the policy of the company you work for? Need more? It says the same for the G1 and for all Blackberry devices. A...

/shakes head. You sir, are no different then anyone else who read this and fall for its deception. You sir, are perhaps, the reason this New AT&T Policy is being created. See the thing is, when people read straight through things and dont stop to consider what they read, they simply become mis-informed.

Then again, maybe thats not fair to say. Maybe you are informed but your just a fool after all? Thats not fair neither, so I will just say, you are nothing more then a person on a cellphone forum looking for a argument. Ok, let me help you out there sir....

alright, since you have no idea how a business works, check this out. businesses exist to make money. customer service comes second. if att wants to mandate data, then guess what, it's gonna happen for smartphones. verizon has done this for close to a year now. sprint does it on certain devices. and att is finally following suit. for thos of you that don't like it (all 10% of you) then switch or deal. if att said they wanted to mandate text with their qwerty phones, then more power to them. they are a PRIVATE business and can do as they please with their business. that is their network those customers are on. the only right you have as a consumer is whether you want their product and want to adhere to their rules. that's it. and guess what, ...
