you know what, i think we have posted as many different senarios and examples for these people, but they still dont get it. you nkow why these people dont get it... cause they are in their shoes and they want data plans on their phones. so they are just like "well if you dont want it then too bad for you, you have to change." they dont mind the change cause it doesnt effect them cause they dont care for smartphones or they want data plans, or they arent for AT&T. so they just brush it off their sholders.

so people that disagree with me and say get a data plan or change phones. do you think that really is FAIR. that this is a good call. who cares what people want who cares if people are "dumb" and want a smartphone and not have data serviv...

Yes it's Fair. It's att's network they can decide they can charge whatever they want and make whatever legal stipulations they want to using their service. That's why they are the business and you are the consumer. If you don't like the fact you will have to have a data plan with your att smart phone go to verizon and get a smart phone and pay the same 30 bucks with a required data plan with them. It's quite simple really att is creating an if/then scenario. IF you purchase a smartphone THEN you must also get the data plan. But you keep mentioning what about choice? IF you don't get a smartphone THEN you are not required to have a data plan. It's that simple.

Doesn't matter. So because vzw does it it's ok? ๐Ÿ™„ Come on. It's stupid. There are pleanty of people who want the PDA function, for thier calender, pc sync, win-mo and palm programs, that DON'T require web. Also, there are ALOT of ATT smart phones that have WIFI!!! So why pay 30 bucks a month (which in itself is overpriced) When Wi-fi is free. Most offices have built in wifi... ๐Ÿคจ

Then get an LG Incite or a SE c905 both are non smart phones with wi-fi if you don't want to pay for the data package.

Don't think it counts. Other then the iphones isn't the rule to have to have the expensive data plan it has to have an OS and a full keyboard? So wouldn't the incite be in the same boat as oh the nokia 6650 and be ok with media net?

Nope. It just has to run a smartphone OS (Blackberry, Palm, or WIndows) for it to constitute as a smartphone.

The 6650 doesn't need a smartphone internet plan and it's got a symbian os in so that can't be completly true.

It would be interesting to see if ATT created a WINMO/Blackberry phone that didn't have wifi but allowed activation without a data plan (for a higher up front fee)..

How popular would such a phone be? What I think is that a lot of people actually DO use the advanced data features on a phone, but they do it over wifi instead of 3g.

Yes, some people really do want just a PDA that calls people, but a good chunk of the people here complaining always mention wifi.

But... I thought I owned the phone. And all I want is to pay the same rate for the service I use as someone with a different phone.

I do own the phone right?? I remember buying it.

Its like if I bought a porsche ,and the manufacturer recomended 91 octane gas. I could still put in the 87 if I wanted to, right? I mean lets say whenever I pulled up to the pump nazi's would jump out of the bushes to make sure I used the 91.

So is it legal? probably, is it fair, not really.

I'm sorry to drag politics into this but I'm sure that all of the folks that are going along happily (like lemmings) with this decision are the one's that want Obama's healthcare to pass. They are in favor of government control and being told what to do with all decision making for their lives. On the other side, the folks that oppose I'm sure are against government control and are concerned about their freedom and the right as an American to make choices. "Amen to that". Get use to it. IMO we will see alot more of this especially from this administration and the major corporations will follow the lead of the government. If I want a smartphone because I like the way it looks and the keyboard or whatever and DO NOT care to have browser, it is...

What the hell are you talking about?
This is a joke right? I'm on some sort of hidden camera prank show, aren't I?!?!?

Seriously? I don't see how you can say AT&T forcing data packages on smartphone users is anything like healthcare reform! lol

While I agree with you on your position against AT&T's mandatory data packages, saying that it is like healthcare reform or "unamerican" is retarded.

Yep, I ROFL'ed right in my pants. Thanks

hey you know what i miss... the 70s. when people would get signs and make a crowd outside and protest. get their voices heard. make sure they dont loose the ability to CHOOSE. use their freedom. if we still had the spirit and ambition like those hippies did you know all the AT&T customers would be outside the stores protesting. ahhh the good times....

Alright...that's it. I have had enough. You obviously have never taken not only an economics class in your life, but you also no so little about marketing it makes me question if you are old enough to post on this site.
1. How dare you assume protesting died with the 70s. Do you not watch the news, ever? People are protesting as we speak, in this country. And in the 70s many protested Vietnam. You dare compare an unjust conflict to a cell phone plan?Really?

2. This entire discussion, is about data on a smartphone. Yes, you do have a right to not get data on your smartphone. You also have a right to switch carriers. If ATT forces a data plan on you, then get out of your contract and go to another carrier. Don't wanna go to another carrie...

1) where in the hell did i say it died?? i said no one protests like they used to in the 70s. i dont see anyone with signs in a huge crown ANYWHERE protesting ANYTHING. i see people on TV saying their opions and all that but not portesting LIKE the 70s with SIGNS in CROWDS. so first of read what i said correctly. I NEVER copmared anything. lets get that straight. i said PROTEST LIKE THEY DID IN THE 70s and it wasnt just about the war too. read your history.

2) thats my point. ultimatum. leave or deal with it. wow thats customer service? LEAVE or DEAL WITH IT. haha how can you treat customer liek that? im sorry im used to my cellphone company treating me with respect and giving me what i need and want in a cellphone and service. i guess ...

1.Are you honestly going to make me link to recetn protests where people had signs and where shouting? Ok, here are some examples of people PROTESTING:
The Iraq Conflict
The Bernie Madoff Victims
The IRan unjust voting
The Bart POlice shooting
You know what, I could go on...but you are too inept to think that if it didn't happen in the 70s, it didn't count as protesting.

2. What cell provider do you even USE!??!? If it's what I think (Based on your total lack of understanding on how a celluar phone company work) is it Tracfone? How is the data coverage on Tracfone. Unless it's some no name company, I garunteed they have a device that forces a data plan. And you have it within all means to get a smartphone wihtout a data plan, just g...
