We are still yet to get any testimonies from anyone in Atlanta or San Fransisco!!!! I would be nice to hear from somebody who lives in one of these 3 cities so we in other metro areas can have an idea what to expect when our perspective cities are upgraded.

Testimonies please!!! Testimonies anyone out there!!! Atlanta? San Fran? NYC? Anybody???

I want to know exactly what the real world experience is like wtith 850 3G. Preferably from a consumer, not a fanboy.

Please go to http://www.mobilespeedtest.com/

and share your results, I am very curious.

The service has improved here in Atlanta. Normally my service in my home was mediocre at best but now I have 3 - 4 bars of 3G (before it was 3 bars of edge service). Also, I haven't had a drop call in a while (knock on wood) since the upgrade. Let's just hope that this is just the beginning. The upgrade was way over due but I'm happy it's finally here. 😁

I'm glad to finally hear from somebody in one of the 3 cities. So what about data, do you browse the web much on your phone? If so, is it a snappier experience? Are you in Atlanta metro, or a suburb?

Both data and voice have improved here in Atlanta. I haven't done a speed test yet but places where I couldn't get a 3g signal I now can. Also, I live outside the Metro area but I travel regularly to the city and you can tell the difference. Now if we can get at&t to hurry up with LTE life would be great....lol!

Ooooh 2.2mbps, niCe!!!!! Just curious, was that a one time got lucky burst, or did you get that speed more than once?

Really that fastest speed I've gotten recently here in Las Vegas was 1.68mbps.

I downloaded an app from speedtest.net and did the test five times, so that was about the avg of those tests.

I was impressed, considering it was the older 3g iphone [not the S].

Really what upload speed is good for is uploading pix to various social websites, video, or video conferencing, right? That sorta stuff?

Good reporting on the 2.2 though Eric, thanks.

Have you confirmed that iPhone was on the W-CDMA 850 carrier channel? That AT&T has deployed W-CDMA 850 in a market does not automatically mean that every 3G device in the market will always camp on or receive a traffic channel on W-CDMA 850. Many 3G devices in many instances will still use the original W-CDMA 1900 carrier channel(s).

well, last year, he would only get around 2 or 3 bars constantly. Now its different, so I assume the phone automatically switched to the 3g 850mhz. It did say 3g on the top left.

Unfortunately, the increase in RSSI (number of bars) does not tell us anything definite. The device could be benefiting from W-CDMA 850 directly, indirectly (e.g. still using W-CDMA 1900 but experiencing greater throughput and better signal due to lighter loading on the W-CDMA 1900 carrier channel), or not at all (i.e. any improvement is coincidence). Absent any other evidence, to conclude anything definite would be a post hoc fallacy.
