what will 850mhz 3g gonna do?

i'm on t-mo so i'm not familliar with att's 3g. if they're just launching 850mhz 3g this time in san fran, does that mean all this time their phones in the bay area uses 2100mhz 3g?

does this mean you can still connect to 3g eventhough your phone doesn't support 850mhz unlike t-mo that needs both 2100 mhz and 1700mhz?

850 MHz provides a much stronger and wider signal strength as apposed to 1900 MHz. The "bigger" the frequency, the smaller the area covered. With this new frequency, users in San Fran will definitely be getting much better signal strength and call quality than what they had before at 1900 MHz.

I believe that AT&T will keep the 3G at both 850 and 1900 so as to have a balanced network in place. That way most of the metro area is pretty much universally covered.

At least, this is ideally what should happen.
