New photo of RAZR 2!

Rich Brome

Jul 28, 2005, 3:12 PM
I just realized digging through my photos that I actually did manage to snap a photo of the RAZR 2 open while Ed Zander briefly flashed it on stage. 😉

I thought I took this shot, but when sorting my photos later that night I thought it was a regular RAZR, since they look so similar. But now, looking at it closer, I spotted the differences and realized what it was. 😁

Sorry for the delay!

Yes, it should be out by the end of this year.

It's really pretty similar to the first one, just with the features people wish the first one had: megapixel camera, memory card slot, EDGE, etc.

People are assuming that just because the CDMA RAZR is the first RAZR for CDMA networks that it will have spec's comparable to the current GMS RAZR. Isn't it possible that the CDMA RAZR will have spec's similar to the RAZR 2 (GSM)??

It will be somewhere in-between. It will have a megapixel camera, but it won't have a memory card slot, AFAIK.

Speaking for myself, these aren't assumptions, BTW. 😉

Thanks Rich, always helpful. Now the even more pressing question... Verizon, Sprint or perhaps both? Verizon has been on the receiving end of some quality handsets (V710, E815) so they are likely. Sprint hasn't gotten anything but the paltry v60v in the last 4 years. But now that Sprint and Nextel have merged and Motorola makes all the phones for Nextel, leads one to believe that Motorola will be back on board with Sprint.

On HoFo, the CDMA Razr was confirmed to have both microSD storage and Bluetooth by two of our insiders (they actually used the phone and all, posted two videos and pics). Therefore the CDMA Razr or Razr V3c is actually more equivalent to the GSM Razr II, albeit much more crippled and stricken with that horrible red and white UI (also shown in the videos).

I wouldn't hold my breathe on the CDMA RAZR having Bluetooth.

It's not listed on Moto's site that way. And it doesn't mention anything about microSD storage which seems unlikely any way since, Moto appears to have the preference of Transflash.

Hey, no probs.

New keypad looks even better. One of the reason Nokia phones always look classier than the competition is their clean and simple lines, especially the 7200, 6280 and my favourite, the 7260. The new RAZR is looking extremely good in that regard.

Is there any new information on this phone? My first assumption is that it will end up with Cingular as the national carrier. And of course that since it hasn't had a lot of press, it may not be seen until next year. Any new info on possible carriers and time of release would be nice. 😁

It may be out much sooner. 😉 They're just trying to keep it quiet right now so it won't impact sales of the existing RAZR. ...otherwise you'd be hearing all about it right now.

Is there anyway you can give us an approx timeframe (1,6,12 months)? I'm looking to get a Razr really soon, but will hold off if the new version will be released soon.

I looked around a bit and so far, not even the "insiders" seem to know for sure. Check howard forums and you'll see what I mean. Rich seems to be the only one that even has pictures of the new RAZR. Over at howardforums.com, you will hear one guy claim 10/2005 and most others say Q4 2005/Q1 2006. And of course best guesses there being spring 2006 or Q2 2006. My guess is that if Rich is correct in his assessment of the situation, they will release the new RAZR by X-Mas. You know, the whole holiday shopping thing. In other words, much like you, I have a guess as to when (my guess, when hell freezes over j/k, unless hell freezes at X-Mas time 🙂 ), but I don't know the real answer.

To be honest I have no idea. But after talking to a T-Mobile sales guy at one of the stores, don't hold your breathe. He did mention that new phones were coming, and he said he thought it would be in mid to late November when those phones would show up, but the new RAZR wasn't on the list of new phones he mentioned. Neither was the V360, but I think in the case of that one he got his numbers confused. If I were a betting, I would say that if and when this phone comes out, it will be a Cingular exclusive like the current RAZR was.

Check out the link in the news section for the new Treo and RAZR 2 reviews at howardcui.com. It shows a lot more potential of the new RAZR. Yes the pics do show T-Mobile on them, but I think that is just for development, I don't think it has anything to do with which provider will get it.

Well, the info is out, now we just have to wait an see when it actually comes out on a national carrier.
