Simple. Opera Mini is java based. They are most likely talking about Opera Mobile which is programmed to perform off the Operating System platform. Any phone that is compatible with Java can run Opera Mini, but I don't think it renders in real time. Another server renders the page before sending it to your phone.

If you have decent connection speed (WiFi or 3G), Mobile outperforms Mini quite well. Opera Mobile also has the Opera Turbo feature, which seems like prefetching to me.

What he means is that when you use Opera Turbo, you're accessing the web through Opera's servers which compress the web page and optimize it for the handset.

Correct, prefetching is a little different I believe. And yes, Mobile does cost unless you snag the Beta. Mini is java based and has no Flash support as far as I know. Not sure if Mobile does or not, I usually just pop up Skyfire for Flash sites. But Opera Mobile does seem to run a lot better, it's hard to explain. Grab the Beta and see for yourself. Opera Mobile also has a widget app.
