I've always said that Sprint hasn't been ambitous with WiMax. And now Clear is taking things into the own hands and actually delivering WiMax to more cities than the one measly city that Sprint brought WiMax to, Baltimore.

Good job Clear!

Hmm, I don't know. If that were the case then why would they have different names? Sprint calls they're one-city WiMax service Xohm.

clearwire is basically sprints wimax network. Sprint ownes 51 percent stock. so when you hear clearwire emerging or expanding, thats the sprint 4g network. alot of people are confused because wimax isnt like lte, its used for more than just cell phones.

I though Sprint had half an investment in the WiMax development/ rollout too. So whoever/ however, just get the coverage out to give LTE(VZ, ATT, T-Mobile) some competition whenever it comes out.

Cleawire/Sprint are a union in allocating WiMAX Jay. So Sprint holding 51 percent of the shares, indeed makes them the deliverer of Clear. So Sprint is definitely showing some ambition here. They incidently, are moving quite rapidly considering the financial downfall they recently experienced. Sprint is recovering and this is testimony to their dedication for progress. I wish them well.

xohm was sprints wimax network before the clearwire merger. so now its just one. clearwire wimax network. which sprint owns 51 percent of and that its running its 4g network on.

I'm located in Lubbock, Texas. I received the new WiMax modem by UPS yesterday (08/07/09). The speed is awesome for Internet access. I use a connection speed monitoring program called "Dumeter". Excellent program!

The cities listed for a September First CLEAR launch already had Clearwire.

What is the difference? Clearwire used WiMax build 802.16e which topped off at about 3Mbps Down and 768Kbps up. Clear uses WiMax build 802.16m Which topps off at about 10Mbps down and 1.5Mbps up.

The 802.16m is not so much a new service as it is adding fiber lines to the pop and upgrading software versions.

CLEAR is owned by several companies as outlined here: Sprint $6.3 billion, Original Clearwire Shareholders $3.2 Billion Cable Companies $1.7 Billion, Intel $1 Billion, and Google $500 Million.

Sprint is the largest investor in Clear.
Clear (not Clearwire) is Sprint's 4G network.

I am in one of those markets listed for the September first launc...
