A basic rundown...

AT&T (nee SBC) has used its monopolistic wireline profits to buy up tremendous wireless market share -- including control of much regulated public spectrum. AT&T has parlayed the clout of its wireless market share into a monopolistic contract for a wireless device that has become the face of the industry. AT&T has now rejected a potentially popular VoIP data application for this exceedingly widespread device. Why?

At this point, no one (ostensibly outside of AT&T &/or Apple) knows for certain. And that uncertainty warrants clarification. If AT&T thinks that its cumulative behavior does not raise disturbing anti competitive behavior or net neutrality concerns, then AT&T has opportunity to demonstrate that its actions serve the public ...

Here's part of why I think it's kind of dumb that the FCC is jumping in:

Is anyone being FORCED to use an iPhone? No.

It'd be different if everyone on AT&T were using an iPhone. But isn't this a product that Apple produced? And isn't the service being used to power the device AT&T (who pays to use the public property)? So pretty much if the FCC forces this application to be allowed, that's like saying the company literally has no control over their OWN SERVICES. Might as well tell them unlimited minutes for EVERYONE because they're using public property! Also, phone service is now $10 a month, because they're on public property!

Yea, this is pointless.

Your much, much more mature than most people on PhoneScoop. Most ppl on PS are eXtremely bias! And aren't what I consider real-world consumers.

Anyway, what do you mean by "straw man fallacies"?

A "straw man" is an intentionally ridiculous assertion or argument that can be torn down easily (i.e. like a man made of straw). See three of them below:

KoldPhusion tries to show that my point of view is ridiculous, but KoldPhusion soundly fails not only because KoldPhusion...

Do you ever have anything positive to say about people? Notice I didn't tear apart your post line by line and point out every flaw. I gave my point of view, and you rejected it as 100% false. Sarcasm is lost on you, my friend.

Yes- indeed he does say things about nice people who actually think through their arguments and positions before posting:

Keep working hard. The wireless industry needs more people like you who possess both technical knowledge and philosophical perspective.

That's one of the nice things anyone I've never met has ever said to me.

Well, then, I guess I'm leaving these forums, as I just get told I'm stupid. Good day.

j/k- I couldn't resist

Just make sure you have a solid understanding of what you're talking about before you go sprouting off. There's plenty of fanboys on this board who would call me stupid all day long just because I disagree with them.

But that's not stupid. Having a difference of opinion is fine. Being extremely vocal and even somewhat belligerent about it is fine. Just make sure that you can contribute to the larger picture and be willing to see the other pieces of the puzzle when they come out of woodwork f...

Apple in essense has brought this on themselves. Creating such an "in demand" product has spurred controversy from end users. Apple and even ATT, have created an almost discriminatory control over what the industry otherwise desires. I have no sympathy. Associates of carriers denounce capitalism by the government while supporting it by the carriers and affiliates. This becomes an oxymoron for developements and advancements. The consumers help shape the future of industry standards and yet the wireless industry has become so out of touch with this, that it is quite sickening.
