Cell Ban???

Shouldnt they just make a cell ban while driving? Here in Missouri starting this January if you are making a call while driving its a minimum of $500 fine, but bluetooths or any other hands free device is ok. 2nd offense I believe you get your licenses taken away for so many days. So I think it should be a nationwide ban from using a cell phone at all while driving. Cant say I am not quilty of doing this in my truck or my street bike...

They do have cell phone bans in NY but I really don't see the police enforcing it at all. They should make it a nation wide law and also make the police enforce it. So many accidents are caused when people are driving with one hand on the phone up to there ear and the other hand on the steering wheel. They back up traffic and are not really aware of what is going on around them while they are talking on the phone. I do not see why drivers don't invest in Blue tooth so that they can talk while driving.

But nobody wants to wear that annoying cyborg garbage on their ear, it looks so hideous and they hate people that do use it!

It's getting bad. I am personally addicted and I really try to be safe! I feel safer with a drunk driver at the wheel than with someone texting at the wheel!!!!

I have nearly wrecked a dozen times and actually hit a curb resulting in a flat tire while texting.

I don't think a cell ban is necessary. The hands free thing is just fine, but certainly no texting or hands on phone use. It's risky and puts people's lives at risk.

That and phones don't always pick up your voice from far away. Or they get the sound of wind noise from the car.

Better yet, ban using "text" as a verb or gerund. "Texting" is not a word.

Of course, you mean "you're wrong."

That a term is included in a dictionary because morons (such as you?) use it in their vernacular does not make that term a legitimate word (see: hospitalize).

I dont get it....

hos pi tal ize

Use hospitalize in a Sentence
–verb (used with object), -ized, -iz ing. to place in a hospital for medical care or observation: The doctor hospitalized grandfather as soon as she checked his heart.

Also, especially British, hos pi tal ise.

I looked it up... Its a word. Now what?

PEOPLE create words they are not created on their own. Words are created using other known words in the "Spoken" language.

Well since I didnt mention why I think this is important. In December I was sitting at a stop light and got rear ended by someone sending a text message. He was diong 45mph and I was sitting still. I was in the ER for about 8 hours from really bad whip lash. My truck was in the shop for over a month. So yea I think it should be banned with a hefty fine.

Most states have already implemented some sort of law banning the use of cell phones while driving. Your state is no different then the others except perhaps enforcement.

Banning "Texting" is simply another step. They are trying to make the roads "safer". Yet someone made a valid point:

Is in the end, "a little safer" is all they are really "trying" to provide. A little safer is better then nothing though.

What about the guy/gal changing the radio station/skipping to find a song? They gonna bann car radios next? Why do we need laws to tell us not to do things that we already know can cause a accident? The...

A cellphone is indeed more then just a calling device and can absolutely be used as a weapon in a few different forms/ways...

I have not heard of any such laws in Missouri of an all cell phone ban.
They did just pass a law that people under 22 could not text while driving. Apparently the officers can look at someone driving and pull them over under the suspicion of texting. If they are over 22 then its "have a nice day". This law seems pretty stupid to me. I believe that texting and driving should be illegal accross the board, but an outright cell ban would overstepping alot of bounds.

It's pending in some Michigan cities, they are sick of people and accidents because they were trying to dial a number.

I can always tell when people are trying to make a call on roads and freeways cause they almost always weave lanes.

It's getting bad. I faithfully use bluetooth and Sync, just so I can keep my eyes on the road.
