Verizon becomes the leader again...

This has happened time and again in the wireless industry: when there is a fight Verizon knows it can't win, they take the opposite side and become market leaders. The industry as a whole fought number portability, but when that issue was going to go the consumer's way, Verizon was the first to say "bring your number to us." When ETFs were a major issue, VZW was one of the first to incorporate prorated ETFs. When Sprint was being sued for handset compatability, Verizon issued their "any device any network" rule (granted THAT hasn't panned out to the customer's advantage, but it has stayed the class action lawyers). How is a company deciding what they want to do with their phone deals going agianst what this company was made for?

Not really. The big companies will still have their exclusives, but for smaller CDMA carriers, they'll be able to offer newer phones faster. this is actually a great move, because these smaller companies, if they grow, would build out their own networks or purchase roaming agreements with verizon, either one could be a net win for verizon.

Remember, when Verizon rolls out LTE, they will still be using CDMA for voice, so the more regional carriers supporting that technology the better.

How on earth could "inviting more carriers to compete" make things less competitive?
