this is huge, every major carrier in the world (except the US) does this, with ericsson, ie vodafone, duetsche telekom, telefonica. And who does vodafone own?? ohhh yea verizon....sprint is doing something unconventional in the united states that has been working everywhere else for years. But, all you fanboys prob just think this is their last ditch effort before collapse.

sorry to break it to you

you know, I'm not even a sprint fanboy or anything, but I do have to admit that sprint gets a lot of crap that they don't deserve. people seem to hate sprint for some reason, but all my family has them, and they have said nothing but good things, so I'm thinking about switching here soon.

True, Sprint-Nextel is making good progress in a lot of areas, and they deserve credit for those improvements and successes.

But anyone that believes management's nonsense that Sprint-Nextel will save a ton of money while getting a better network in the bargain has no real-world experience with the outsourcing of core operations and/or no concept of basic economics. Ever heard of the mythical free lunch?

The only truthful and accurate thing you can say about the outsourcing of core operations is that it is DIFFERENT. Outsourcing core ops is very rarely better, usually results in noticeably degraded performance, and in the final analysis turns out to be cost-neutral at best. Different? Yes. Better? Rarely.

An example where outsourcin...

..and another thing. Sprint is ONLY doing half of that stuff becuase they are the low-ball-data-sellers. Do you envy the guy that has everything that is cool and up and coming, but up to his neck in debt and his income does NOT cover the bills? Sprint is that guy!!

Hmmm...you're right, I guess that's why Vodafone outsources their network just like Sprint is now doing. You know Vodafone right? Also known as Verizon's parent company...

Hmmm...you're right, Vodafone is Verizon's parent company.

Did you know that Verizon is comparatively more successful than its parent company Vodafone? Did you know that's why Verizon in the US has been trying for years to buy themselves out from under Vodafone's oversight. Did you know that is precisely why Vodafone won't let Verizon go, because Vodafone needs Verizon to keep the parent company successful?

Hmmm.....

I don't think you can easily compare the two situations. Sprint is outsourcing their network ops to save money. They say they want to keep offering unique things like a quality customer experience, good values, etc., but it is likely they will keep branding themselves as Sprint, not erricson. Verizon, on the other hand is not known as Vodafone outside of forums like these.

I don't believe Vodafone is Verizon wireless parent co. Verizon communications is their parent co. NOT Voda. Voda owns 45% of Verizon wireless.

Wow. So, is Vodafone just a mere shareholder, considering they own a major controlling interest in the company? You don't have to believe that Vodafone is a "parent". I could equally tell you that the sky is blue the majority of the time, and you wouldn't have to believe that either. 🙄

Mr. Hesse this is all fine and dandy but your company is losing money and your customers are dropping faster than flys on dog poop. So you'll save some money. Big deal. Your service will still suck.

First 4g network?? Well everyone knows you always had firsts and have been innovative but guess what? It never really mattered. You wanna know why? Cause your service and company sucks. The only thing keeping you guys afloat are the hoodrats on Boost and those on SERO plans. No wonder your company isn't making any money.

You think WiMax will save you??? LMAO. Please. LTE will eventually dominate and when your CDMA competitor called Verizon gets a 4g iPhone, it'll be time to a fork in Sprint cause it will be done. Why do you keep doing thi...

Hahaha. Seriously. I work for sprint, and think they're making bad decision after bad decision, but I'm telling ya, I barely see any SERO (now called employee referral plus) plans. It's the Simply everything plans that are keeping us going! hahaha. I don't have anything to do with the racist mobile (boost)thing though, so I'm ignant regarding that. Yeah. Ignant.
