Verizon maybe?

Considering the recent talk of Verizon switching away from BREW and going to Java, maybe this is a hint of that change coming.

where did you hear about verizon switching from BREW to Java?

If that is the case, does that mean average joes can be make programs for their phones?

I was thinking the other day that Verizon's move to megabyte pricing for data use would fit well with the whole app thing, since many of the apps are free anyway. Free Java apps would work well for many phones, but VZW will want to reap some fees for downloading/usage.

you mean 1.99 a megabyte instead of $10 a megabyte if you are charging by the kilobyte? Yes, if you use 1.01 megabytes you are charged 4 dollars, but that is still 6 dollars cheaper than per kilobyte usage on other major carriers. If verizon wanted to "reap the fees" I would expect they would keep with the old per kilobyte model.

You can get unlimited data for $10(connect) $15(vcast) dollars a month. An increasing number of dumphones are coming with HTML browser capabilities, which Opera would be suited for.
