What a wonderful plan on such a terrible device. All the 80+ yr olds in the World can enter the 21st century on a ten year old device.

Actually, "for the longest time" Tracfone was a mixed bag. It really depended on where you purchased a handset...that determined whether you were operating on Verizon's network, or Cingular's. This is the reason that some phones were GSM capable, and some were CDMA capable.

I guess since then network coverage has improved enough, and their customer base must have upgraded their handsets often enough to migrate them all over to Verizon's network. It's probably more efficient (and cost effective) to have one agreement in place as opposed to two, don't you think?

All I know is this is def the best deal going now with great coverage. I just dropped verizon worth it in the long run. And they already ported my number and had me up and running within an hour. For those of us that text and talk at this price with this coverage cant be beat. Not everyone needs an I phone and if ya want better pics use a dig camera they will be comming out with more phones as well. But I would def reccomend. Way better then boost service etc which is horrible!

They will continue to be, as neither carrier offers coverage everywhere.

No, it requires specific phones, and they have to be tracfone branded (it can't be a verizon branded phone without some serious coding) It also has to be one of the basic phones, seeing as Tracfone basically roams off the Voice network only (so no smartphones, no media centric phones, etc)

They use verizon towers (so they are CDMA) but they don't use Verizon phones.

The marketing people at Trac Phone blew it. If they knew that they were coming out with a unlimited talk, text, data plan, to get in the price war, then they should have had a $99 qwerty phone to go with it. Soemthing they could market with the plan.

A nice 2.2 or 2.4 Qvga screen, keyboard, decent camera. A phone that does not scream trac phone

They blew it.

Yes. I'm Serious

Saving money is just as important as saving face to some people. To pull out a quality, nice looking phone in public is important to some people.

Look at this thread, The first thing people wrote about was that they had 3 crapping phones to choose from. The guy on cnet commented on the phones available to this plan. Yes, what phones look like, and what features they have matter. So putting out a quality qwerty phone with this plan would have been a big P.R. win for Trac Phone.

They will win on price, but what good does it do for their customers to pay for something that you can not enjoy. That's all I'm saying.

There is a stigma attached to Pay as You go. Pulling out a phone that says
Verizon, even if it's a pay as you go phone, is not the same as pulling out a Trac Phone.

Sorry, but that is just the way it is.

If I was running their P.R. I would have had a 20 something, sitting and texting on his all black smart phone looking qwerty phone.

I have to agree with jrfsdf. Pre-paid has shown a dramatic rise in interest lately. Tracfone has always been a popular choice for coverage and ease of adding minutes. This is an aggressive move that I find very interesting and attractive. Interesting because Tracfone can utilize VZW's network, offer this price and still equate a good compensation in money return?. This proves VZW and other traditional carriers charge their subscribers way too much for wireless service. Attractive because I would switch just to make my stand on the price practices of the big 4, still get phone calls and emails at a much lower cost. That to me is ultimately more impressive than looks.

I could also get my parents off their $48 dollar a month plan that only ...

The service is on the second tier of the Verizon service. Look at Verizons coverage map and then check out Straight Talks. The coverage is spotty at best outside of large cities. When you prepay for cheap service, that is exactly what you get... CHEAP SERVICE.

I would simply like to say, out of all the posts and responses on this thread, this is by far the best and most unbias. At the end of the day....you get what you pay for. That includes service, coverage and customer service. Thank you for yout time.
