Seriously, how may times can Apple fool their fanatics, this is 3G redux. It happened after the 1st generation iphone now it is happening again, Apple is putting out another same old device, adding features the original iphone should have had, and are trying to market it as "innovation." Still no MMS, no Multitasking. The iphone 3GS is basically the same as the 3G, 3MP camera, an unlocked processor, and?.... If the Apple fanatics can't see that Apple is mostly interested in the "app store", they will remain fools of many. This "iphone 3G update", has nothing on the Pre. If people actually believe this 3G updated version will achieve 7.2Mbps on AT&T, they are crazy. From many of the various iphone/Apple dedicated blogs, a lot of current...

Did you miss the whole all-new-guts thing? The 3GS sports a faster processor, longer battery life, faster network connection, etc.

Obviously you're wearing those rose colored glasses Apple sent you. It's basically the same CPU as the one in the 3G iphone. The current 3G iphone has a CPU with a max of 600MHz, Apple under clocked the CPU to 400MHz (to conserve battery). This updated version of the 3G will have an unlocked CPU. How can a device have a faster connection when the network it is on has serious limitations? Doesn't matter how fast the CPU is. The 3G iphone was supposed to get speeds of 3Mbps, the speeds are no where near that. AT&T's network is garbage, those boasted speeds will not happen.

Really? Because I've had no trouble obtaining fast speeds with the iPhone 3G. AND I've had better data network reliability than with Sprint's 3G EVDO network!

And somehow I'm wearing the rose tinted glasses because I stated fact (new internals, radio, and processor) , but you're not drinking the weak Sprint haterade because you think it's not going to supposedly get those speeds despite never having used the device?

LOL, I bet you think the Samsung Instinct is faster than the iPhone too.

First off your facts are all wrong, it's the same 3G radio, Apple upgraded the firmware with, the hopes "the updated 3G" will get faster speeds. If you want to believe it is a new CPU, then go ahead an remain a fool.

"AND I've had better data network reliability than with Sprint's 3G EVDO network!" The fact that you would even make that comment shows, you're either delusional. full of sh-t. or both.

In terms of network speed the Instinct is faster than the iphone, the iphone has a better browser than the "Instincts" browser!

Do you have evidence otherwise? No? Didn't think so, because you haven't seen the hardware, and although the hardware/radio is similar, the reworking has been significant. Done. You're wrong.

Regarding reliability, I have both a Sprint and AT&T account. So guess what? Unlike you, I actually get to use both out in the real world, and guess what? I can report my findings. Since obviously you don't have an AT&T account, you can't question my findings! And besides, does it take a genius to see Sprint's in last place in network satisfaction? Maybe someday you'll make the credit rating to get an AT&T account and make that very own judgement yourself!

In terms of actual performance (hey, wasn't that your argument that real performance wasn'...

Of course... If it's not broken why fix it? Why would they spend time remodeling this device when it is soooooo popular and many of the other manufactures are following suit i.e. LG VU...Samsung Eternity... The form factor doesn't need an update...It's solid. Faster processor. MMS. Higher res cam all its missing IMO is flash...

I can see you've been sipping on the kool-aid far too long to engage in an actual conversation...

I am by no means an Apple fanatic but the increased data speed for the new phone is the main reason I will get it. I use my phone to access the internet and email rather than carrying a laptop.

Faster speeds is of prime importance to me.
