This is the way it should be..

They're just giving away the farm because they know they won't be around next year.
True. However, Carriers offer 30 day trials. The most common problem is billing and customer service. Usually by the time these two things are utilized or experienced, the 30 days has expired and the customer is pretty much locked in for two years with an assault of inconsistant billing practices or less than stellar CS. People always complain about contracts but I never understood. You sign a 2 yr, get 150 to 250 off(some PDA's+ BB)... You cancel they want their money back. Verizon just released no contract plans and I would venture to guess hardly anyone gets them unless they already own a phone they want activated.
Take the Money off upfront, if service doesn't work out...give it back, always seemed fair to me. Or pay $100's more just so your not in contract
I do agree buy it outright, works better for gsm carriers, simple unlock and you can use the phone on either AT&T or TMO, or just get an unlocked phone. The major CDMA carriers are just too anal about activating each others phones. Depends on which way the wind is blowing and if they feel like doing it.
