Everyone is trying to spin this one way or the other. This doesn't necessarily mean that AT&T or Verizon were wrong. Didn't they both say something along the lines of "about six months?" If Sprint launches the Pre in June, six months takes us to the end of 2009. That's too bad for Sprint.

Not too bad for Sprint. Good for Sprint. They have a last exclusivity deal with Palm for future WebOS releases from Palm too. So when Verizon gets the Pre, Sprint will be releasing the next generation Pre. It will be old news by then. Also, nothing will be nicer than having the Pre on the Simply Everything Plan. This phone is expected to be one of the biggest releases in the industry. Many are expected to port to Sprint for this phone.

Actually, it isn't great news for Sprint...thing is all those folks who may have thought about making the switch to Sprint because of the Palm Pre will only have to wait a few months to get it. That doesn't exactly help gain new customers like the iPhone did for AT&T...that's the kind of deal Sprint should be going after. But 6 months isn't forever...two years...that would be enough.

Nobody wants to wait till 2010 for a phone that's available now. Like I said, palm stated in their response to Verizons statement that they have future exclusives with Sprint on the webOS platform that will be released around the same time. So who cares that Verizon is getting an old phone with a followup on another carrier with better plans.

Um...2010 is only six months away. Why would a customer break a contract to get a phone that he could possibly get six months from now without having to break contract?

they won't it just wishful thinking from a few very bored sprint reps hoping to make some commission.

it still doesn't matter sprint is doing horrible right now, they aren't adding subs so the fact that they might get more Palm devices is irrelevant, if noone is buying. ppl are leaving sprint at a rapid pace, even with the masses iphone craze it ( which the pre will not have) did not make some mega huge dent in fleeing customers...so ppl certainly will not be knocking down the doors at sprint.

Neither Sprint nor Palm is in a position to negotiate a multiyear contract for a handset. Apple and AT&T could do it because:

a) Apple is led by maybe the best marketing mind in the history of technology and has a rabid following that would buy rocks if it had an Apple logo;

b) AT&T was the largest carrier in the US at the time and could promise more sales.

The relationship between Sprint and Palm is completely different. Sprint is a distant third in subscribers. It can't come close to guaranteeing as many sales as AT&T. And Palm is in desperate need of sales. It cannot afford to lock itself into one carrier for that long a period of time.

IF (big if) Verizon gets the Pre in approximately six months, there's no way Palm will be releasing a next generation version at the same time. That would cannibalize sales and Palm is definitely in no position to come close to doing something like that. It will be at least a year from now before Palm releases the second generation Pre.

That doesn't mean that it won't release other webOS handsets before then but if using previous standards is any measure, the Pre would still be the flagship.

Agreed that the Pre on a Simply Everything Plan would be the best use. Personally, I doubt I'd consider it otherwise.

๐Ÿ˜ ๐Ÿ˜ ๐Ÿ˜ Sprint will not fail. sorry for the bad news haters. Im not going to say sprint will bounce back from this but it will help. Sprint will not be going under, Dan Heese has been doing a good job in my opinion given what he had to work with.

Agreed. Many don't realize that the agreement between Palm and Sprint is for more phones than just the Pre. A new exclusive will be coming out for Sprint when others get the Pre

LOL, keep dreaming....most of sprint/nextel customers are switching to their prepaid site for the unlimited on boost and virgin mobile. Give it some time and all that's left will be users who have PDA's and are on Sero Plan only.

It's just matter of time before sprint becomes a prepaid carrier or someone buys 'em out.

Sorry but that won't happen. Sprint will never turn into a pre-paid carrier. Anything to back up that claim? Also, Sprint owns so much spectrum and is still a very valuable company. I highly doubt anyone wants to make a purchase of that magnitude in this economy.

My oh my what a surprise someone is saying Dan Heese is doing a good job. When the next Pre comes out I'm betting there will not be any significant changes to web Os. It took Palm years and years to redesign their OS so waiting 6 months for me ain't bad at all including the fact that Verizon does not force customers into unlimited minute plans just the data plan which is a deal breaker for me. Many other cell phone users that got the news early 2010 agree that it is worth the wait for the call quality and network the Pre will be on.

he is doing a good job....

and excuse me but based on what u posted do you mean sprint requires customers to get the SE plan? because sprint also has an everything plan with 450 and 900 minutes and u can activate PDAs and the instinct on those plan, not to mention the business essential plans and everything data share plans..and even if they do require u to get the SE plan...that plan is at about the same price point as what your almighty verizon(and at&t) plan (+data) would cause you, only the SE plan is unli calls already ...

I totally agree. What I pay on AT&T for with a PDA, I would get more on Sprint. I like having a GPS, TV, etc... but on AT&T its extra.

I know friends who have VZW and have the VZ Nav. They were told by the store rep, they need to have the Vcast or something pack. That's extra as well.

All I know is VZW & Sprint can make all the claims they want. Plain and simple nothing is officially been signed. Will this one device save Sprint? Probably not but it sure will get people to look at them. Take that and the TP2, BB TOUR, Samsung Instinct2 or something, then its a bigger appeal.

You're talking out of your butt. A six month exclusive expiring does not mean Verizon gets the Pre in Jan, Sprint can easily extend the contract. If Sprint does not extend the contract, due to negotiations and network branding, it will be several more months on top of the six months. Then maybe Verizon will ship the crippled version of the Pre to it's customers. However, It is likely Sprint extends the contract. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Right. I see millions of people running to Sprint for this phone just like they did to AT&T when the iphone came out. LMAO Who are you kidding here. Sprint is a joke. They have the biggest churn in the industry, the worst customer service, lackluster phones. The Nextel acquisition has been killing them. If they think WiMax is gonna save them, they're sadly mistaken. The future is LTE.

I'm sure it wont be long before they go crying at Vodafones *cough* Verizons door asking to save them. But by then it will probably be too late. Verizon doesn't want or need their ghetto customers on Boost and those who blatantly lie to get SERO plans and unwaranted credits on their bills each month.

If I were Sprint, I'd consider going prepaid and mergin...

First off, u dont know a damn thing about economy.

as far as ur dislike against low income people goes, thats fine. but what u have to understand is that someone has to cater to them. its called market share. demographics. sprint has most of the low income that dont want to be charged highly for the SAME service. not diss towards verizon because big ups to them for making that money as well. just like sprint customers wont like verizon because of the prices, verizon customers probably wont like sprint because of customer service reps that have attitudes. but sprint can also save customers by providing service that they their customer wont have to call customer service and if they do make it something simple so it doesnt require a rocket s...
