How about allowing pay by the kb?

Had I known that I could unlock the iPhone and take it to T-Mobile, that's exactly what I would've done.

I'm paying $20-per-month for a service I don't use.

Last time I checked, there were still more Blackberries and other data phones sold by ATT than the Iphone. How about a break for those people?

If they had unlimited text messaging included I would feel better about paying the 30 dollars a month. or allowing family plans that charged less for data based on the number of iphones on the account.

They would have to do it for all of them, because it would go against their policy (All smartphone with querty keyboards get the $30 data plan)
If they do this for just the iPhone, not forgot about their other customers like Blackberry customer, I will cancel my service and go elsewhere.

Aside from that, doing pay-per-use iPhone would be a disaster. A lot of customers will either end up going online by accident or download apps that go online will get charged a lot. Unfortunatly we have to pay for idiots mistakes.

Exactly the reason I got rid of my Moto Q-tired of paying $30 for the data plan. Besides MS Exchange or Blackberry email capability why is the PDA data plan $30 vs $10 (in a family plan) for any non PDA device?

Because you would be paying more than 20 a month if you went for pay per use even if you never used the internet side of the phone (application active connections)

How about just allowing ALL carriers to offer the iPhone and see how fast AT$T scrambles to kiss their collective asses then?

How about only charging people for the data they use and then capping the meter once it reaches the amount for unlimited? Yoigo in Spain does this.

Charging flat out per-kb is ridiculous- unless the rate was insanely low, most people would wind up paying more- the iPhone is the most data intensive phone sold today.

Obviously, I don't understand how the phone works and probably miss the obvious applications that use data in the background.

I only check e-mail and browse the web when I have a Wifi connection available.

I don't use Google Maps.

I just remembered that visual voicemail uses data.

What else is there?

I'd rather have regular voicemail and be restricted to wifi use for data than pay the extra $.
