Im curious by how much they will increase the allowed cap on LTE. I understand they can not offer unlimited, but they do need to allow different tiers.

Talked to a guy at the Alltel store and while they are not officially capping data, they are slowing speeds down once exceed 5GB.

Not true at all!! I worked with alltel data cards more than the avg alltel rep I took many special classes on the data card!! They don't do that at all I have done and avg or 60gb a month and my speed is just as fast as cable internet Hell I did 10 gigs in one day

10 GB in a day? That seems like a stretch. EV-DO Rev A averages what? 700 kb/s? If you spread 10 GB (bytes, not bits) you'd need to be averaging a solid 971 kb/s (bits, not bytes) for every last second in that 24 hour span. I guess it might be possible with some really good/frequent speed bursts, but it just seems a little implausible.

10 GB a day? Then you're the reason (the type of customer) most companies had to create the 5gb cap for.

Oh, and if you are in one of the markets that is switching to verizon your data WILL be throttled in speed during peak hours if you go much over 5gb. I imagine the same thing happening once the trust markets are bought up.

they haven't listed it as unlimited for a VERY long time.

Please link any current material showing it as unlimited.

Maybe you should read the promotional material before complaining about it?

5gb is very clearly listed.

If you like pullin' 10G a day, you may want to keep Alltels little bandwidth to yourself & not promote others to share it with you... Plus, LTE is NOT the CDMA service you signed up for. You will not have AYCE LTE because you signed up for a knee-jerk Alltel plan. Sorry...

Not sure how much they will increase data caps on 4G networks, but I'm almost positive they will go up. With 3G networks, there are plenty of my customers for whom 5GB is a de facto unlimited plan, but once we hit 4G and people start doing things like Netflix streaming and slingbox, 5GB would go pretty fast.

There isn't going to be a cap at the start if 4G. Just like there wasnt a cap on 3G at the start, but they do it because stupid people who use tons of internet for useless stuff. A wireless network was not built for all the internet access you like. It can't support it.

^

All it will take to introduce caps is some idiot who downloads 20gb+ a week in torrent files and leaves the torrent program open long after the download finished.

yea that could be a problem!! I mean I understand what everyone is saying about absures but don't say it's unlimited if you don't want people doing crazy downloads !! Hell just make different tiers if they are so worried about absuers!! I mean it is pretty simple !! That's like saying I can't download as much as I want with my cable internet !!

you can't. You download too much your cable company will throttle your connection. Many cable companies are looking to put data caps on their service because people don't know how to act responsibly.

This issue is getting old. Most ISPs from cable to dsl etc, now have some form of caps in place ranging from 5 gig to 250 gig. Most started capping services in the USA in the past year. My comcast cable modem has a 250 gig cap. I remember reading about 5% off ATTs DSL users use almost 90% of the bandwidth.

Remember 15 years ago, just browsing AOL and reading email? LOL. Now people want to download full length movies, attempt to run processes in the background , stream INTERNET radio. Someone's got to pay to keep up the infrastructure. The ISPS don't have a bottomless pit of billions of dollars to keep spending cause Joe Blow wants to download 10 full length movies. If you want to use more, pay more.

What ISP's have caps?

Years ago, people complained about downloading MP3's and the bandwidth it ate up. Now its movies and video streaming ... and its crappy quality. Netflix and such are talking about streaming true HD. The fact remains video streaming is here to stay and it will get much bigger. My ISP offers me a product; X amount of $$$ for unlimited use at xxx speeds. Thats like someone complaining you are eating too much at the buffet.

That's kinda funny because I pay 74.99 for my cable internet and download torrentz all the time I download movies all the time and games !! Never had my connection slow down or got a phone call or a warning from them I think the cap thing is BS I am paying a lot of money for their service I would call and cuss them out if they slowed down my connection or if they cut me off

You would 'cuss out' a customer service representative who had nothing to do with the business decision to throttle your connection? Yes. Very mature.
