So... Assets?

Assets meaning subscribers too? Is this going to put AT&T back ahead of Verizon in overall amount of subscribers?
Do we get to rearrange the forum list yet again?

I think they just meen spectrum/towers. Alltel owns some GSM infrastructure due to its earlier buyout of Western Wireless, but I'm not so sure if they also have to give up some of their CDMA markets as well...

Alltel just used its GSM network to sell roaming services to AT&T and T-Mobile. Alltel ONLY sold its cellular service under the CDMA technology, and not GSM. AT&T is buying up some of those GSM towers in certain markets (where they already have a license to operate, i.e., the Dakotas, etc.) they will not acquire subscribers because there are no GSM Alltel subscribers. Alltel only sold its services under CDMA. I hope this is helpful.

I am not saying your wrong but I think I remember reading somewhere that there were indeed roughly 3-4 million subscribers that were involved with those assets.

Yeah, there are millions of customers that must be divested, but now that I think of it, AT&T could buy the GSM network and the CDMA network and customers could go to a different carrier. That would be even better for consumers because that would give them an additional choice, but I have a feeling AT&T would buy the markets as a whole, customers and towers.

Ummm, Mr. Happy Meal Investor Relations Guy?

That statement is completely wrong.

I would recommend you do your duty as a holder of Hedge Funds or whatever is it you do that brings you to this fair forum and study up on the facts.

The FCC is requiring Verizon to divest markets. When the FCC requires you to divest markets that means everything associated with that particular wireless license (A or B Cellular or PCS licenses, depending on the market) including all customers associated with that market.

Nice try though.

Burger Time, is it your policy to hurl juvenile insults at those who are more knowledgeable about a particular situation than you are?

FYI, texaswireless is correct. VZW is not allowed to absorb certain ALLTEL markets (including Cellular 850 MHz &/or PCS 1900 MHz licenses, CDMA &/or GSM network infrastructure, and CDMA subscribers). The ALLTEL management trustee must divest those markets. And AT&T is now the likely buyer for some of those markets.
