You shouldn't tout the fastest 3G network and then offer a popular buisness device without it! It makes no sense and I for one would be a very disappointed subscriber over this offering. If Blackberry had any say in this, then shame on them as well.

AT&T already has a blackbery with 3G its called the BOLD. This would be my guess on why they decided to not have 3G on this one. Plus if they added 3G to the curve it would drive the price up on the handset

It still makes no sense. A subscriber of buisness orientation should have a choice of which BB device they choose to conduct everyday business. Most BB devices have been directed towrds busness appications and the popularity of 3G is a crucial selling point of any PDA or smartphone device. IMO, The lack of 3G does not placate the considerations of accessing data by Business people. Even some basic devices(dumbphones) access 3G!

But what we have learned is that BlackBerry is more and more of a consumer based PDA rather than a business oriented device. True, a lot of businesses still use it, but a ton of consumers do as well. This device will give consumers an even cheaper option for a PDA.

The funny part is that AT&T won't tell consumers who buy it that it isn't 3G, and then they'll wonder why so many customers are underwhelmed by the product, since they'll see everyone else's phones speeding past.

Good job there AT&T. Enjoy your iPhone exclusivity. As soon as it's gone, you're done.

What are you talking about?

the blackberry Curve is marketed as the "poor man's" blackberry, it offers less features for a more economical solution... the iPhone has nothing to do with the Blackberry Curve... TROLL

If I was going to call any blackberry a "poor man's blackberry" it would be the Pearl.

AT&T had nothing to do with this handset's lack of 3G. Blackberry designed a device without such a capable chipset for use on T-Mobile's network, and now that the design is available AT&T is simply porting what Blackberry already has created over to their network for a cheap PDA choice for consumers.

Simply because AT&T still decides to offer cheap alternatives to more pricey 3G handsets has no relevance to owning the fastest 3G network. That fact still remains true...so why not tout it?

Why does it need 3G? If you want 3G go with the Bold. Not everyone wants or needs 3G. Someone who checks their email and doesn't do any heavy web browsing would probably choose the 8900 for longer battery life and smaller size. People over react so much when it comes to 3G its not even funny. Get over it if you don't like the phone don't buy it.

Blackberries have been extremely successful over the years without 3G. Since they are at their core business devices and deal more with text, and now some HTML it has worked fine.

Most consumers do not use Blackberries for what they are designed for. They incorrectly believe that since they have the QWERTY keyboard they are 'texting' phones. Not so. They are designed from day one as organizers and for the email. Consumers who have Blackberries have a remarkably low attach rate for the BB feature, and most of those that do have the feature only did so because it was required for the rebate and then likely forgot it was on there.

Consumers and business alike do not truly utilize the web effectively on most phones. Whether they are...

No reason to put 3G in this device. If you do, AT&T has less of a reason to offer it because it approaches what a Bold is.

Heavy web surfers will hate this phone, but they should be looking at a Bold anyway if they do. You really don't need 3G to connect to BES and BIS
