Why? Their current 3.6 HSPA is already faster than Verizon's 3.1 EVDO Rev A, so it's not false advertising at all.

Advertised speeds and end-user speeds are TWO completly different things. Most people don't even get above 2mbps, forget about "3.6mbps" as you probably a biasted employee

Nope, I don't work for a phone company.

I'm just pointing out that false advertising is extremely difficult to prove, and that in this case AT&T is on very solid ground whether or not you agree with their claims.

Ah, so your a phone enthusiast like me, not an industry worker.

I'm thinking of getting a usb modem from either ATT or Clearwire later this year.

Remember that AT&T has a 5gb hard cap on data usage, so there's not much use in having that speed available if there's going to be a charge for going over.

Clearwire, on the other hand, has no such cap.

Hmm, interesting. So there is someone out there with no cap. A couple of weeks ago I saw a headline on Phone Scoop saying that Clearwire is expanding they're network this year and Las Vegas is on the list! 2-4mbps I think, and it's cheaper than ATT!!!

If I'm not mistaken, no.
Clearwire (Xohm, Sprint) WiMAX is a different technology.
If it services your area, then its probably a good deal compared to traditional telco wireless, because of the caps alone. For true mobile use (if you need it), you may want to see if there's a WiMAX/EVDO card and service.

Sorry, but you are mistaken. Clear and Sprint are not different technologies. The are the same Wimax services just with different brandings. Xohm was the original branding for Wimax technology. Sprint decided to partner with Clearwire in a 'joint' venture to expand the wimax footprint. After this Clearwire rebranded Xohm, to just Clear. So both Sprint's "4g services and Clearwire's "Clear" services use the same Wimax technolgy and footprint.

Now the fanboy stuff.
Sprint's move to 4g was ingenious, AT&T introduced everyone to 3g as fast, Sprint bumped them with 4g, which people will take for faster.

lol, when I first heard about Sprint's upcoming 4G (I'm new to the wireless industry, so excuse me) I just imagined AT&T execs and ad guys looking shocked and saying "Oh S-"

Sprint is majority owner of clearwire along with several cable companies. There will soon be a 3g evdo/wimax 4g aircard out with wimax roll-out later this year and next.

Yes and what is the point in having Clear wire? If you are going to have "Home Internet" you might as well get cable.

I work with all the carriers, actually, but not for any of them.

I don't really see the point in a USB modem, but that's because it's so easy for me to tether my phone and use its data plan instead. It's pretty rare that I'm not within range of some sort of wi-fi too, so the 5 gig data cap isn't really a problem for me either.

You don't get 3mbps for any carrier besides sprint with WiMax. Thats it, end of story. Show me one testing with over 3mbps thats not with Line-of-Sight. Can't do it. So everyone on here needs to quit comparing lab/testing speeds and talk about the all important real world average speed and indoor speed. Im tired of these posts hearing 3mbps and 7mbps, sorry to hurt your feelings, but these are not real world speeds as of yet.

Thats right, but thats not the end of the story. Right now, people get 1 - 2mbps, and the network is capable of 3.6mbps.

So when the network is capable of 7.2mbps, your actual speed will also increase. Thats the big deal about all this.
