AT&T is smart in trying to keep the iPhone exclusive. It means more money and subscribers for them. But Apple will ultimately lose out because every competitive phone manufacturer is constantly trying to build an iPhone killer. Many of the Samsung, Nokia and LG phones are getting better and better. Almost if not all have replaceable batteries and memory card expansion. These manufacturers are not going to sit on the sidelines and continue to let the iPhone dominate the market. Point is; by 2011/2012, there will probably be a damn good iPhone killer from someone while the iPhone is going to get a refresh each year. Apple should branch out now before the competition catches up. GSM may be global but Verizon has some good "global" phones that w...

Whats makes at&t better the slower 3g coverage and higher prices..... In my opinion only company better than sprint is verizon, but you get what you pay for.

AT&T has a faster 3G Network than Sprint, better coverage, and better customer service.

They also, unlike Sprint, have decent phones.

I'll make you a deal. You find me one credible source that not just shows that AT&Ts internet speeds are faster but proves it, and I'll go cancel my service and buy an iPhone.

BUT ZOMG IT'S 3G!!!

Florida, but overall it doesn't matter. Everything being equal, EVDO Rev A is the fastest.

I clocked a 17 second download for a 9.8MB file over iTunes on the South Carolina 3G AT&T network right now. That's pretty damn good. And I doubt anyone is going to notice a major difference between AT&T 3G and Rev. A. in Sprint's favor - especially on Sprint's anemic devices.

It took 45 seconds for a Sprint Music Store purchase (I don't know the size, I'm willing to guess it was much smaller, sorry.)

That's not the most scientific example, and it could've been server issues, but yeah, in this real world scenario it makes a poor case for Sprint's network.

I trust Engadget's tests, which consistently said that Sprint had the fastest.

1.2Mbits for Sprint, 1.6Mbits for AT&T. In real world usage, AT&T's network latency over 3G is amazingly low as well.

My tests back this up as well. 3G on the iPhone is a way better experience than 3G on ANY Sprint device.

My friend has a iphone and we can connect to the same website and i get there 2times as fast as him every time, so your "TESTS" are bs.

The 3G speeds vary greatly depending on SIGNAL STRENGTH and NUMBER OF USERS ALREADY DOWNLOADING FROM THE SAME TOWER. AT&T has the most speed, but they also have the most subscribers, so they need the extra speed to keep up with all the iPhone 3G users downloading Music OTA without bogging down to oblivion. Sprint has high speeds because of the relatively small amount of users on their networks. Verizon has a huge 3G Coverage, but about as many subscribers as AT&T, so the network load is just as big, if not bigger, and the speeds might be skewered down a bit because of the heavy network load.

I've done the browsing, and at one time I was trying to logon to a website using my LG Dare with low signal and my friend's iPhone 3G with a sort of ...

You achieved a 4.6 Mbps download on AT&T 3G?

Has AT&T deployed HSDPA 7.2 in SC? Do you have an HSDPA 7.2 capable device? If not, then your download referenced above did not happen the way you say it did.

I'm not sure who is the top dog in the US, but it isn't Apple. It has to be one of the other big players like LG, Samsung or Motorola. Apple is way too new to be anywhere near it.

Apple's not even close. They only have one handset, and while that one handset sells very well it's still just one handset.

Shortly after the iPhone's 1-year anniversary, some Apple rep was at a convention bragging about having sold 10 million units. It happened to be within earshot of a Nokia exec, who turned and said "10 million units? We've sold that many since last Friday."

Despite all the hype, Apple is tiny in the cell phone market. Nokia isn't huge in the US, but it is still bigger than Apple.
