AT&T will surely fight this one hard. Come 2010, I'm sure they'll be looking to keep rights until 2012.

I see how this would help ATT but Apple will need a huge offer for them to hold onto them for another year. If the iPhone pentrated other markets cough:verizon:cough it would make ALOT more $ from sales & monthly contracts. They would at least double

When Verizon turned Apple down why didn't they go to Sprint? This AT&T thing has gone on long enough. I think Apple should hold a grudge and allow all carriers except Verizon to carry the Iphone once the deal expires.

Except they'd get a lot more money from a single carrier [especially at&t] holding it up for ransom. In the end Apple wins too in $$$$$$

I am so glad verizon said no and with all the restrictions they have on their phones I can't see Apple going back to them. at&t would be dead if Verizon had an open iPhone.

Except that Verizon would not restrict the iphone at all. Look at Verizons blackberries and PDA's. for the MOST PART their restriction free

Like i always say look at the touch pro on sprint and verizon, verizons have half the ram.

But key word is "MOST PART" they don't lock down their phones.

1. Mandate Apple use VCast instead of iTunes

2. Use their stupid awful internet portal

3. Slap it with ugly Verizon logos

4. Charge about $15.00 more/month than what AT&T Charges.

5. Charge extra for visual voicemail

6. No Google Maps... VZ Navigator.

AT&T benefitted that Verizon has absolutely no taste in phones.

The storm's GPS is still disabled with verizon applications

the scary thing is that looking at the Storm's update history, it's been 4 months since any updates available, everyone is running beta software just to get it straight

imagine the iphone's software, we won't see 3.0 till 2 years later!

Yes, AT&T would be dead if it did come to Verizon. But, Apples sales would doubble or tripple because tons of iPhones users say it all the time, they LOVE the phone but HATE the network it's on. Many people have said they won't switch to the iPhone because its on AT&Ts network. Also, look at this, if it did come to Verizon, it can be sold all over the US and not in limited areas because AT&T doesnt have native coverage all over the US unlike Verizon who does. If apple were smart, they would open it up to other networks because money is really important right now to EVERYONE and I think everyone can agree with me on that.

As long as Verizon keeps the iPhone as open as at&t has I think it would be a great idea. Unfortunately Verizon barfed at that and the payments Apple wanted figuring they'd be fine even still.

And while they are fine, they'd have KILLED at&t if they had the same version of the iPhone that at&t got.

OK... You odviously know nothing about at&t. One Apple won't want to switch to vrz because of the cdma platform. One on CDMA they are limited as to where they can sell over seas two their whole production line will have to change to accommodate the CMDA change in technology. Second thing. At&t does have nationwide coverage and you can purchase the i Phone any where in the US. AT&t has more coverage then VRZ does. Plus at&t 3G coverage is larger then VRZ. The funny thing is all the VRZ cust have left and come to at&t to get the iPhone so I don't see them leaving and going back to VRZ one because they won't be able to use their current phone and would have to buy a new one and second because they are in contract and won't want to have to pay a...

The problem is that you're both right.

"Largest network" and "fastest network" do not have a common definition. Verizon and AT&T both define the terms in ways that make them apply to their own networks.

Neither one of you can "win" this argument because you're both right... and you're also both wrong. It just depends on which carrier's definitions you choose to use.
